Synthetic Clothing

Anyone else notice the sheen ( shine)that seems to be present on this new polyester material everyone seems to be so excited about?

ive noticed the shine from new synthetic fiber clothes (my friend had one of those cheap nock-off field jackets and it was like a reflector when a light hit it)

I have not tried all of the synthetic stuff but I have yet to find anything that works better for me than good wool. I have heard great things about Sitka gear though.

I have some of the Sitka Gear. Some pieces I LOVE other pieces I don't care for. I am going to intergrate more wool into the mix.

Jon > Which wool products do you like the best? I am looking into some of the First Lite material. Any experience?

Friend of mine set the whole outfitter tent with three other guys gear in it on fire the last week of bow season trying to dry his synthetic out hung over a wood stove. The worse part is that they were 9 hours by horse from the trail head. The shine is because it reflects rather light like plastic rather than absorbing light like fur or hair.

Merino wool makes excellent long underwear. It's not much good around anything that pokes, scrapes, pulls, bucks or binds for very long. For underwear it's tough to beat as it doesn't stink or suck the oil out of your skin like poly. You can wear one set for a week if you have a good outdoor woven woolen over it.

I agree with you brotherking on the Merino wool.
I have been wearing the Woolpower stuff for a couple of years. I can wear the same baselayer shirt for a week, and I might stink the shirt doesn't.
Heard the FirstLite was more comfortable then the Woolpower, so I am going to give that a try.

I think there's something to the reflectivity of fabrics that can be a problem. Seem to be able to get closer to animals when wearing wool than polyester!

Hey Onions, I have been a huge fan of Grey wolf woolens for 10 or 12 years. However, I recently aquired a shirt and pants made by sleeping indian and really love it too. Now I use things made by both companies. I don't have any experience witht he FirstLite stuff.
