my kingdom for a pair of catfish skins - help
« on: April 04, 2007, 10:38:00 PM »
I need a pair of catfish skins to cover my ABC2 sinew bow.  I gave the only pair I had away.  Catfish skins make the best bullet proof sinew backed bow covered yet made by Mother Nature.

I've got all my local catfisherman working on some skins but no luck yet.  Ya guys got a line on any large catfish skins???

coldsteel - the bow is 58" ntn.  I'd like to have 2 x 27" run of skin if I could get it.  that would cover the limb with one piece and I could splice in the grip arear.  Can ya get a catfish that big???  :)

27" is a small catfish compared to what I can get. Do you need em by a certain time. I'm sure I could get some this weekend. If you want, PM me your phone number and I will give you a ringthis weekend. I'm in athens, about 2 hours from you. If your interested just let me know. Justin

Oh man I am so interested.  I gotta have the bow ready for June so I need to get the on the bow and let it dry pretty soon.  It re-wetts the sinew when ya apply the skins to it take a while to dry it back out esp with cat skins.  the long the better.

I'll PM ya and thanks so much. Dinner and a finds fee is on me  :)

Rusty,

I have a snake skin that might be perfect for your bow.

Good color and I think it might be long enough.

Dang, where's a pair of catfish skins when I need 'em?  Always wanted my own kingdom, and looks like I'm going to miss my chance!  ;)   Good luck on your search, I'm sure someone out there will have what you need.

I have a large yellow belley catfish (we call em flatheads up here) skin in the freezer. Let me know if you need it. May have to dry it to send through the mail. Or overnight it in a cooler.

Catfish skin?  Thats the first I've heard of that.
I'd like to see a build-along on that.

JUSTIN/COLD STEEL,
How bout some help catching those big cats. I love to catfish but usually do not catch them as big as you are talking about. That would be some fun.

Wingnut,  I don't see much other than garter snakes where I am, so please excuse my ignorance - is that an eastern hognose or what is it?

Batman, that middle picture is absolutely classic! I'd suggest a title such as:

I'd love to see pics when that's done. I've never seen catfish skins on a bow. Sounds cool!

Oooooo man 'em catfish skins would do soooo fine.

Ya know when ya take a catfish skin off it is tuff, real strong for it's thickness and a bit stretchy....ya think of a better bow backing for a sinew bow ?  :)

I want to see pics of that bow with catfish skins.  Sounds interesting.  I haven't had time to run any trot lines this year yet.  Last time I did had 2 25#+ ones that would have been perfect for ya.  Do you dry them like you do snake skins then apply them the same way?  Never heard of this one.
