Its not the size of the animal you hunt that matters. Its how you hunt the animal.

Congratulations Jessica!!!!!!

I'm curious about your bow performance.  Obviously it was enough!  What is your actual draw length and did you get a pass through?  Hit any big bones or ribs?
Dave

I've come to believe that the keys to shooting well for me are good form, trusting the bow to do all the work, and having the confidence in the bow and myself to remain motionless and relaxed at release until the arrow hits the mark.

Dave it was a spine shot but the second shot passed though and into the ground.  I was, and stil remain curious about how this little set up will do???  Jessica is only comfortable out to about 15yds so her stands are set up to keep em close.  Hopefully we will have more experimenting and photographs this season.  Thank you everyone for the two thumbs up and believe me I do not take this for granted.  Jessica is a gem.

Sincere, heartfelt congratulations to you BOTH!!!

On the first page, you mentioned how excited you will be when you have children hunting. That will again, be a day of congrats for BOTH of you.
You will not believe how it feels to see the excitement and satisfaction in the eyes of your children when they become successful hunters.

I (we) are all happy for her, and this is only the beginning. Before you know it, you will be giving up all the best spots, you will look forward to hunting more than ever, AND your success will be measured by your own hunting as well as hers.(theirs)

With light equipment, the basics are all the same. Sharp, perfect flight, and close range.
Year around shooting is the key to confidence, and confidence is the key to success.

Congrats again!!! Many happy returns!!!

Not to Hijack,

But this should be good evidence in shining some light on the speed/poundage question.

The spine shot, what kind of damage did it do?  the second was obviously the kicker.

Still, a pass thru at 15 yds.   With 35 lbs, if she is drawing to that.

Does lots to reinforce the advice that is always heard  "sharp broadheads and well placed shots".

Also must comment to her, what great self-control to make an excellent follow up shot.

Probably not a full 35lbs because that is what the bow is marked and she is not pulling 28". I should put it on a scale to see exactly what she is pulling?  The broadhead did not stick in the spine so I cut that section out and I am going to boil it and clean it up to see the damage.  I am very interested in all of this too.  She said she did not get too nervous and when it went right down she text me and ask if she should shoot it again.  Of course I said yes and her second shot went through on an angle and was a liver shot - did not hit bone.  Pretty good shooting for a deer that is crawling and spinning around.  I would rather she did not have to experience the spine shot for the first one but at least we knew she got it.
