My goal this year is to take a deer or turkey with all hand made equipment. I hunted this evening with river cane tipped with a knapped dacite head. Fletched with turkey feathers from my longbow bird last year. Awesome job Hickry!

You've set the bar about as high as it goes and accomplished the feat. Well done! What a feeling it is.

Way to go !!!  I shot a bow/arrow/point combination one year that for whatever reason backed the arrow out on two deer in a row.On close, broadside hits to the ribcage it appeared that I only got 2" of penatration and the arrow was hanging down and flopping around when the deer ran off. I was horrified. they both ran 30yds and fell over. on both instances the arrow stretched the skin on the off side and bonced back.

That's a good one right there! You've just joined a unique select group that has taken deer with self made equipment. Congrats

Dave

I've come to believe that the keys to shooting well for me are good form, trusting the bow to do all the work, and having the confidence in the bow and myself to remain motionless and relaxed at release until the arrow hits the mark.
