Wax or polish for bows?
« on: October 13, 2009, 12:45:00 PM »
Hey Folks,
What do you folks use as far as a wax or polish to help protect your bows finish?
                                Thanks!

Johnsons paste wax works great and makes great camo as well.Just wipe on the paste wax and let it dry to a haze.Once the season is over just use the wax to polish off the dull wax and shine your bow.bd

What the Real Bowdoc says. I use Johnson's Paste Wax and it works like a charm. I live in a part of Oregon where it rains 90 something percent of the time during the winter and putting wax on my limbs really knocks the water off. Have yet to have a bow get ruined from being out in the rain. And believe me, I've been out in some down pours!

Just finished putting Johnson paste wax on my hunting bows. We've had rain twelve out of the first fourteen days in October. Glad others agree with what I'm doing. Good luck. Stay dry and "Keep'um Sharp".

All of these works great on fiberglass but over the years I just use bee's wax and a hair dryer. On just wood selfbows.

I would second the renaissance wax imskippy mentioned. Great stuff. It is used to protect valuables in museums. I use it on my pipes since I don't have a large buffing wheel to put carnauba wax on like it should be. Renaissance is real handy for other things also. Even use it to protect the plastic covering over my head lights. My truck is 15 years old and the lights were so yellowed I could barely see at night. Polished them up, put the renaissance on and they haven't faded since. Fairly expensive but a container will last almost for ever.

Where would you pick up the Johnson's Wax and what is the difference between it and Turtle Wax or Carnauba wax?

Doug A:

Johnson's Paste wax has been around for years. Try Wally World or any store that carries other types of wood polish or wax. Your local grocery might carry it. Home Depot or Lowe's as well. I've had my can for years. Can't remember exactly where I bought it. Good luck.

I use Birchwood Casey gun stock wax. Same company that makes Tru oil, which I also use. I figure it is made for the same purpose. No complaints here.

I found a can from 1969, that still had some in it. I heated the can to make it sofr and what a good job it did on the my main bow and also the backup bow. I did polish it off, but the bows have that dull finsih anyway. so I am good to go for the raiun and snow. I have 2 inches on the deck this morning and they are calling for the weekend snow and showers...
