Doug,
I've talked to Nick several times on the phone and Steelforce had a booth at the K-Zoo trad show last spring.
Nick thought the Phat Head was Steelforces best.
Counter to much of the new conventional wisdom out there about single bevels and/or 3:1 ratio's, Nick contends that a short, thick, double bevel will give better performance than anything else.
Having a shorter 1.25" blade surface vs a 2-3" blade surface has less resistence. A sharp, stout tip also opens up a wound channel.
I'm a big fan of reading about all kinds of tests with single bevels vs double bevels, etc. It's all very interesting.
But Nick MAKES broadheads. And in a major way. I tend to trust a guy that makes a living at making heads and out of all he's made, he says "this is the best head I've made in my opinion".
Anyhow, if anyone tries them, you will not be disappointed. As mentioned, I'm taking off in 20 minutes for an afternoon hunt and 210gr Silver Flames will be on the tips of arrows because my current setup is perfect with those 210's and an extra 10gr's in weight rings for a total of 220 up front. But I do plan on buying 2 packs of the 190gr African Phat Heads next spring to try with my CX Heritage's with some added weight screwed into the back of the insert. And if Steelforce does the K-Zoo show again next year, I'll pick them up in person.
