This is no surprise, wis dnr tried to pull this same crap last year at the conservation congress meeting they held in january. I am sure that this proposal will be on the questionaire for this years meeting and everyone who cares must show up
because if this proposal passes through the conservation congress it will more than likely
become law. Yes, the meeting is long and boring but everyone must show up.
also, I have an email with the statistic's from a
major auto insurance co. showing the percentage increase of deer-vehicle collisions by state for the last 7 years. nation wide there has been an
18% increase in deer-vehicle collisions for the last 7 years except for one state, wisconsin, we have had a 5% decrease. I don't think I am being paranoid when I suggest that the insurance co. lobby could have their hand in the dnr's pocket.
I would be happy to forward the e-mail to anyone
interested in seeing it.

Trad 101,
You have hit the nail on the head, the "management" of deer has more to do with the mangement of money than conservation of a natural resource.
I would love to see the e-mail.
Bob.

This proposal impacts the quality of the hunt and the quality of the bucks for bowhunters and gun hunters alike. Short term gains in herd reduction means nothing if you've impacted the quality of the hunt thereby impacting the long term participation by hunters. Lesser number of hunters in the long run doesn't serve DNR's goal of herd reduction.

That is an excellent point Bruce, and I doubt that has been taken into consideration. When we get to the point that hunting is nothing more than a shooting fest the essence of the hunt will be gone and people who have always cared about the sport will be lost. Maybe we are reaching that point now....

The bad thing is, even with a survey, obviously 400,000 gun hunters will have a chance for a longer season, during the rut, with more gun hunting opportunities. Whether it's good for the herd or not, how many gun hunters are going to vote " no"? My guess is pretty much only those that bowhunt. Welcome to the beginning of the end of bow season as we know it.
