Had a AM sit, real silent in the woods today, not even tree rats. Was a mild mourning to sit but no activity. Still acorns on the ground, some deer sign but not alot.

Got a new game cam from Ken the other day. I decided I would put it on a trail that I thought had some potential this morning. As I was picking out a tree to hang it on( also where I am going to hang my ladderstand). Something caught my eye to the left of me. There stood a beautiful 6 pointer at about 30 yards, looking right at me with that challenging look in his eye. We had a moment. Needless to say, I didn't hang that camera. The stand goes up tomorrow and I take the rest of the week off from work!  :bigsmyl:

This season the bucks in our area seem to be real receptive to grunt tubes.

I saw the first buck of the year tending to a doe on wednesday. Yesterday, I saw three bucks, two does (one buck was trying to get between a pair but kept getting chased off.) The woods in my area will be swarming this coming week. Good luck all!

Couldnt hunt yesterday but as I was walking the dog along 787 I saw a mess of bucks, at least 4 probably 5 chasing a doe.I got close to 2 twin forkies but couldnt count points on the others.
Sunday I did hunt and saw a nice 8 in Rennsselaer Co. but I couldnt grunt him any closer than 45yards.He finally lost interest and wandered off.He was seriously birdogging a trail. If I had a climber I would have positioned it exactly on the ridge he came from but I was stuck in the old ladder stand.Ill be buying a Summit this week.

Hunted today from 7am till noon..... NOT EVEN A TAIL!!!!!

Woke up this morning to a good hard frost, the first one we've had yet. I kinda figured it would be just the thing to get thing jumpin' but I guess not. Anyone else hunt today at not see anything??? If you did see something, what was it and what time did you see it???

(BTW, I did see about a hundred squirrels, but apparently they're not fussy about when they scurry about)

A guy I know saw 23 deer walking in a single file line this morning. Some bucks mostly does.  I saw nothing but a bird hunter and a grouse.  My friend also saw a buck while leaving the woods this after noon.

Hunted near Freedom, NY last week. Saw a big 8 pt. from my stand a long way off. I climbed down, moved closer, and grunted at him. He came on a line from 150 yards to within 15 yards. If he goes right I have a clear broadside, left no shot. Guess which way he went? Tried to find an opening, passed on an iffy shot through a hole
through some branches.
My buddy saw him out of range chasing a doe two days later at 2:00 pm. I had a great week saw deer or turkeys everytime out just no shots.
Good luck.

Not me Chuck....I have to wait until I can go somewhere that I will be ok to shoot at a doe. Cant do that locally as per landowner's directions. I have been so bummed with my lack of time in the woods. Guess getting one opening day will do that to ya...  :D

Going out tomorrow AM in Herkimer.Just scouted a spot about a mile from my house but gonna save it for after work, afternoon hunts.Loaded with rubs and scrapes but very, very suburbanized. The guy who owns it told me he usually doesnt see deer there til late winter but I have seen them cross the road there many times at all times of the year. The guys that work the midnight shift at my job tell me some tales about the size of the bucks they see there in the wee hours so we'll see.

Ya, woodchucker I hunted this morning at my brother's place. It's about 40 miles south of Rochester. I seen a lot of deer moving this morning. Grunted in a spike just after day break and shot over his back and had some doe's go by. Stayed in the stand till 8:00am and then wanted to move to a stand we got on the bank of the Genesee River. Seen a 4 pt. on the way. There is a standing corn field in front of the stand and while walking on the outside edge don't I walk into three bucks chasing a doe in and out of the corn. A spike, nice 8pt and a 5pt. The 5pt was the last one I seen, he came grunting around the corner right into me. I got him at 8 yards. The time was 9:00am. Their starting to move good around here. That was a total of 5 bucks I seen till 9:00am.
