I'm still in the city due to a mandated meeting at Central Office yesterday afternoon. BUT gonna hit the road in an hour. Be in the Catskills for a weeks worth of stalking and still hunting. Nice!

Up and ready to go out in about a hour. Very cold for opening day, I have 31 degrees with some snow showers. I may have to put on the long johns or even go to the wool pants, wool shirt, and have a vest in the back pack.

good luck to all

Hey Guys this is should probably be a new thread but here's what I saw:
1 Raccoon.
1 glimpse of a deer my friend said was a spike buck.
1 sound of a flock of turkeys
Then I switched spots at noon

1 doe and fawn out of range
2 spike bucks
2 button bucks
the last 4 were at 25 yards the edge of my comfort zone. It was OK though because they were off limits on this property.  I had a blast finally seeing some deer.  I'll get soem meat in the freezer yet.

My friend hit a doe high and we lost the blood at night. He went back today to look.  He also saw a moose near Cambridge NY.

In all a great opener. Cold but a good day none the less.

How did everyone else do. I see Curt downed one.

Had a 1 1/2 year old "nubbin buck" (spikes about as long and fat as my thumb) give me a "slam-dunk" 10 yard, quartering away shot at 7:30 Saturday morning. I let him walk. Just too early, too soon. Was treated to a parade of does and fawns all morning after that, what a great day!!!!!

Never did get out Sunday though.....

Opening day was all a Still Hunter could ask for. Had a spike buck walking and feeding right toward me. Fifty yards, then forty, then behind some oaks. Pops out head on at twenty yards back behind another oak at ten... Got my bow up and ready for a broadside FIVE YARD SHOT... My heart was pounding so hard I thought I was gonna pass out!

Out he comes, broadside at five yards. Super calm now. Moment Of Truth. Wide open and mine! As I focus on "that hair" he picks up an acorn as I draw. BUSTED! The little guy caught me drawing and was in mid air and almost gone in a fraction of a second.

He gave me another chance but I missed at twenty something and gave the little guy an education. Or did he give me one?    ...  :banghead:
Gonna head on back up there in a day or so. Hope to play it right ifin' I get another crack at it.

Must have been a rush Mike.  Sounds like most everyone at least saw some deer.

I'll be huntin' in Freedom, NY Oct 28-Nov 2, can't wait.
Had a close encounter with a doe here in Fl.on Sunday am. She picked me off in a ground blind at twelve yards, just needed her to turn a little more.
Good luck everyone!

Finally found one unlucky doe just before dark yesterday! Picture perfect at 15yards. She ran 150yds and lay down for good in front of my buddy. Doesn't get much easier to find than that!
