This morning all I had was a doe with two young ones and spike buck.  Saw a nice half rack tending a doe off the road at about 12:15 and my friend pulled a double on a buck and doe.  Joe

Saw a real nice 6 point the other day in Sterling Forest. He managed to keep the thicket between us so I never had a clean shot at him. The setup was good, but he found that one spot where I couldn't get an arrow to him. Still, what a rush being on the ground and having one like that come in....gonna give him another try tomorrow morning...

I did see fresh bear sign on the way in this morning (my sister's garbage was strewn out for about 50 yds.) No sign of him in the woods though.

Well Friends, Tomorrow I head back to work, vacation is "officialy" over. They've already started calling me for overtime, and I'm not even back yet!!! Unfortunatly, My season is probly all but over. No more vacation and I'll probly be working every weekend from now on. It was fun while it lasted, what little there was of it!!!!! I would like to congratulate all who have been successful, and wish Good Luck to those whom I hope will be soon!!!!! I keep thinking of the little spikehorn from opening day. Yeah I know, I should have shot him. I'd have filled my tag on opening day and had a successful season. But it wasn't meant to be,it just didn't feel right. In my mind he is mine, yet his horns do not grace my wall, nor his meat fill my freezer. Many times I could have shot him but I let him walk away. I feel good about my decission, you except that when you let them walk away. In my mind,I will always see him standing just yards away, noseing through the leaves, and the sound of him crunching acorns will stay in my memory forever.

Good Luck My Friends!!!!!  :archer:

Just talked to Mike, he is seeing deer. I was going to hunt with him today but my little man is sick with a fever and vomitting.

Good luck to all of you in the woods on this gorgeous day.

Best of luck WAYSIAH.

Well fellas...got out today again in Sterling Forest...what a beautiful day to be in the woods. Didn't see that nice 6 point again but I did have 4 does to mess around with at about 9:30 this morning. I grunted and bleated...really got them going back and forth but the wind was  little unsteady. They held up at about 50 or so yards and wouldn't come any closer so I couldn't shoot. After 15 minutes they slowly walked off. If I get out again its gonna be the late season or maybe on Long Island but I've used up most of my vacation time so we'll just have to see. I didn't fill the tag but what a thrill being there on the ground with them...it just never gets old....good luck to you all for the remainder of the season!!

Went out for 1 hour this a.m. self employed but still need to work, saw the most deer ever in one hunt 15, and one was a nice 18'' 8pt. No shots though all deer seen from the stand and he was grunting and chasing the does like crazy, got to kill a doe by friday night or its going to get tough going for awhile. Good luck men.

Had some action but no meat on the pole yet. This still hunting stuff is tough but alot of fun. Worked my way up a deep stream bed to look-see what an apple orchard had to offer when...

Right there is a four point eatin' apples. Guess he saw my head pop up cause he ran right at me. Maybe he thought I was another deer. Well, cover in the way of a shot. Now he is head on at 15yds. Still no shot. I'm ready now. No Shakes, Just Ready. Finally gives me a perfect broadside within 10yds but thorn brush was in the way. Now he winds me as he circles and it's over. Still Alot Of Fun.

Next morning as I step out the back door, two does walk out from behind my tool shed and bust me gearing up. Why didn't I look out the window first?     Second time this has happened to me.   :banghead:

Gonna spend the next couple of days (and nights)   ;)   with my wife then head back up to the Catskills Thursday. Might be able to do some huntin' with Jamie then.

I saw a nice buck last nite ,bout dang time, but he was probably 175 yrds away heading away.He didn't quite make it into range of my buddy on that hedgerow before getting the down wind side of him and ending the game.I do hope for at least 1 more outting before I put my bow down and follow the crowd. There is a spot I could hit that'd require me to use my bow during the gun season and I'm sure I'll sit that spot at least once but it's darn near over lets just hope the fat lady hasn't sung quite yet

Good luck to anybody still workin at it
Shoot straight and have FUN!!

Maybe it's just me...... I don't care for the use of tree stands or store bought blinds. Like to use natural cover and the wind. I'm not knocking other hunting methods (that are way more successful than my own) but I NEED to sneak around and mostly get busted.

My interest is in the stalk. The kill, well, is gravy. Someone please tell me I'm not alone with this one.

I'll give you this Mikey; every once in a while I have to get out of the trees and blinds and have a good stalk. Something where I can move at the speed of slow and satisfy the mountain lion in me.

Mcgroundstalker...lol....you aren't alone in that a kill is just gravy for me too but I am not much of a stalker...too clumsy. I only hunt from the ground and also don't use store bought blinds...just what I can find around the spot I want to hunt. Sometimes I just sit real still against a large tree and keep the wind in my favor...I've seen plenty of deer that way and even managed to take a couple.

The end of the bow season is in sight. I have to thank the DEC for a less than great season of hunting.( thanks for another year of more gun doe permits )

I also have to say the weather sure seems to have also played a part in not the normal rut activity in the area. In the Delware county of NY, the town of Franklin, when I talk with other bow hunters, it seems the deer movement has been in the dead of night. Guys that have trail cameras out show that most movement was in the period of 1 to 3 am.

Also the deer I have seen was always in that first or last 20 minutes of light. I saw a total of 9 doe, and 2 spike, and 1 4 point buck. But none came within my shooting range of 25 yards or less. I am a  natural ground blind hunter, as I have a bad leg and can not climb into tree stand.

So how that I said my piece how would you rate your season ? The DEC ? and the suggestion we start the Bow season on Oct 1 and not give any more prime time away to Black powder, kids and or anyone else.
you should see how I use to shoot

I agree Bill. On Monday morning I went in before first light. I heard deer in every direction and almost had a buttom buck run me over on the way in. I sat for 6 hours that morning and only saw one doe who decided to bed about 40 yards away from me. Most of the orhter deer that I have seen have been in the last 30 minutes before dark (evening hunt).

I have to agree with sob(sweet old bill) not the other. I have hunted hard and have had much success in the buck department but even in the bow only area I hunt doe sightings are way down. DEC has to start cutting back on permits and start letting ya shoot coyotes year round. I believe the coyotes are ruining our deer herd where I hunt!! I have seen more yotes than does this year. 6-7 years ago I would see as many as 25-30 does in an outing and now I hardly ever see one. I have seen 14 different bucks this year and passed quite a few and only 11 doe sightings all year and I hunt alot.  Best of Luck!!  Shawn
