Awesome Feather Waterproofing

My brother hooked me up to this stuff called
WATERSHED. It is a liquid used in waterproofing
fly tying materials. Tried some a couple days ago. Weather here has been rain rain rain now wet snow. Any how left three arrows in practice target for a couple days got very wet and slushy. I got them in house today to see how it worked grabbed arrow below feathers and held tight while pulling thru hand glasses got soaked from water spraying off of feathers. Feathers stood up as if never been wet.Took into kitchen and ran water spray at full force did not bother feathers at all.Odorless after 24 hours $4.95 at Gander Mnt. or probably any fly shop. Watershad is great stuff. Been treating my dry flies with it for a number of years, but never thought using it on fletching. How are you applying it?

I just hold tip of bottle against feather and let liquid drip very lightly on to feather you will see the feather getting a wet look to it , run on both sides I don't know if both sides is needed scince this is first time using but I guess it can't hurt let dry overnight and ready to go.

I've used Gink's fly dressing for it's "intended purpose" before...never had my hands on the Watershed.
Have you compared the two, by chance?
Gink's is a liquid. It'll get kinda thick if it's real cold out but otherwise it's a liquid with a thicker portion to it. Only thing I know to compare it to is some eye medications..the salves you have to put on your eyeball/under your eyelids.

Been using Gink even longer than I've used Watershed. I pretreat my flies with Watershed prior to putting them in my fly boxes. On flies smaller than #18 I just go with the watershed, larger ones get a coating of Gink as well.
LOL, over the years my vest has absorbed so much Gink from wiping my fingers off that it would probably work as a flotation device.

Like the old Bohning Fletch-tite, just do not get it down on the quill or it will dissolve the glue and your feathers will fall off.

I don't remember the brands, but i also have had trouble with different waterproofing and fletchtite. Nothing like they fell off this year but diffently made a difference in the long haul. If the quill glue becomes white in color keep a eye on them. Real cold temperatures seemed to shorten the glue bond strength.

Just went and yanked on my feathers they did not move and they are put on with Fletching Tape.
I do not see a problem as of yet , will keep an eye on them!

Going to have to look into this myself. I like to stalk in the rain... super quiet and the deer seam to switch off the radar at times.
