Pronghorn one piece vs T/D
« on: October 17, 2009, 06:44:00 PM »
I am trying to make a decision as to the Herb Meland one piece longbow or the takedown model.
Could I get some comments as to their performance between the two.  I perfer a one piece, but I do know that the takedown riser should make for a more stable bow.
Thanks

Had a three piece once and it was a awesome shooting bow. Very smooth. Shot my buddies one piece pronghorn and big difference between the two at least to me, maybe i was partial.   I still have dreams about her. Maybe someday we'll meet again.

AKAHUNT
I have both and like them for different reasons.
The one piece is light as a feather, easy to swing and a pleasure to carry. I can draw it without regard to weight (of the bow) and I don't tend to grab it upon release.
The three piece puts more weight in the hand and adds stability, especially when I'm winded and panting. The bow stays put upon release. The three piece is easier to transport of course.
Aw heck, I'm sure glad I have both.
If you prefer a one piece then thats what you should go for. You won't regret it. Herb makes great bows.

If you are considering used, there are both a one piece and a three piece in the classifieds
The one piece comes with a dozen arrows!
Both are priced right.  so...
Buy both and keep the one that talks to you and sell the other one.  :bigsmyl:

Akalhunt,
I've shot both types of the Pronghorns.  They were both 62" and approximately the same draw weight.  I definitely shot/shoot the 3-pc. better, because for me, more mass weight is better. I just sold the 1-pc. and have a 64" 3-pc. on order.  Herb Meland makes an outstanding bow. I have other longbows, but Herb's are the smoothest, quickest shooting.  Good luck.

I am a three 3pc fan myself. I have been shot many of the 1pc bows though. In Fact My Dads go to pronghorn is a 1pc osage bamboo. I have shot it a lot and can say that it amazing. The 1pc is faster than the 3pc bows of similar weight. So all that said I think that I would have to say this. GET THEM BOTH. Now you got me wanting a 1pc to add to my collection.

One more thing. I dont know that you will find a person more educated or experience with pronghorn bows then PrarrieDog he gave great advice as well.

Shedrock may join in here too I think he has a FEW as well.

I love em both but favor the 3 pc, I think its easier to shoot because of the extra weight but I still shoot both...PR

Hi, Lynn. I have owned both, and I have come to prefer the takedown, both for the obvious reasons of portability, etc., but I like the added weight in the riser. Not much, and the grip feels the same, but there is a slight difference in weight. As a bonus, you can add limbs in different weights as the mood strikes you. Both are beautiful and shoot well, so I don't think you can make a mistake.

Just came in from shooting my three piece. That bow puts a smile on my face every time!
It's just so dog gone quiet! and shoots where I point it. Yup. it's my favorite.

I have had both a one piece and a T/D,both were fine bows. But I like one piece bows and liked it better then the T/D,it was just a personal preference for me.

This morning, a takedown was my best buddy.

Outstanding Bows both of em,but i lean towards the 1 piece a bit more and i own a 3 piece.Even Herb himself says the 1 piece is a bit faster.

i'd suggest assess your reasoning for requiring a take down stickbow.

fwiw, the prime reason i hunt with a t/d longbow is because i fly out for hunts.

I regret everyday selling my 3pc but, if that one piece in the Classifieds was a little lighter, it'd be sold!
