32 year Trad. Deer. (Pics Now)
« on: October 18, 2009, 08:37:00 AM »
Just wanted to share. Like alot of folks on Tradgang, I went back to the light after messing with wheels and all the stuff that goes with them.

Yesterday was our opener in WV and I managed to take a small buck with my SR Swift at just before dark last night. It's my first traditional deer in 32 years. He's a little guy, but I'm as proud of him as I would be if he had made the book.

I was wet and tired last night so I didn't take any pics but will try to get one posted today.

Here a couple pics. Not the best but I was pressed for time. Our kitchen stove is out of commision and the wife and I were in a hurry to be ready when the new one was delivered.

I used my Great Plains swift. It's 45@28 and I'm pulling right at 28. WW 125 grn elite with 100 grn brass inserts mounted on 3R trad. 500. Total wieght 495 grains.

The shot was 15 yards but with a hard angle. I wanted to hit him a little high but the shot was higher than where I wanted.

After the shot I could see my arrow and saw it was high. I heard him hit the fence between me and the next farm. I gave him an hour and found him just on the other side of the fence. I just pulled him under back on my side.

The arrow had broken off when he went through some trees. The broad head and short shaft was inside. It had went through the top of both lungs and stopped when it hit the off side leg bone. When he jumped and ran it moved back inside of the chest.

Because of the high shot' there was very sparce blood until I came to where he was. His chest was full when I field dressed him.

I was breathing hard and had to talk to myself to stay calm when I was trying to get the shot. This has put the excitment back into hunting again.

New to this pic posting, hope it works.
Thanks for all the grats and fine words guys, this is a fine place to hang out!
