On Saturday night this past weekend I watched a Barred owl swoop in from the other side of big pine and whop a 1/2 grown raccoon.  The owl did this really cool swoop AROUND the tree - both he and the coon were equally surprised - I think the owl only saw a part of the coon and thought it was a squirrel - they ended up having a stare down for a few moments before the owl gave it up and flew of.  I love seeing stuff like that - it almost made the fact that the wind was shifting all over OK.

Once a redtail hit a fieldmouse right behind me.  I didn't even see it happen.
He musta glided in, and all I heard was a LOUD thump on the ground.
As Im turning around and reaching inside my coat(for the backup) I see him lifting off the ground with this mouse in his talons.

The sound of that hit-still with me.

You would never picture this hawk being able to hit with the percussion that it sounded like it generated.

That mouse it its talons was LIFELESS.   No struggling.  Just limp.
