Birth of a bow - We will name him...TallTines
« on: October 20, 2009, 08:40:00 AM »
Brian Wessel at Talltines custom bows started my bow this week. I'm quit sure I drove him nuts with a wood combination and changes to this and that. But as some have found, he happily made another change order and went on his way. Last month Brian took a leap and is now a full time bowyer. He told me he has been making bows for 14 years and is now happy to be at it full time.

My final choices were a Gray Dymondwood riser, with a Bocote stripe and Black and Redheart accents. My limbs will have Bocote wedges with Bocote lams and Gray Dymondwood tips over black phenolic.

Here is the first photo he has sent of my riser being laminated together and the Bocote limb wedges laying beside it. I will put others up as I get them. The limbs are in the oven being baked now.

This is going to be a very special bow in more ways than one. You see I also sent Brian a very small arrowhead from my grandfathers collection to embed into the riser. He had found shoe boxes full of them as he farmed our family farm over his years here in Kentucky. He is long passed away so with this small addition I know this bow will have that extra mojo needed to make it a special.

Here is the riser block before lamination and the Bocote limb wedges laying above it.

What a great idea, with the arrow head.

That is some great looking bocote as well.

I can't wait to see more!!!

Tom,

That bow will be a dandy, especially with the inlaid arrow head.

You're right about Brian not getting flustered with changes. He takes them in stride without stammering, sutttering or running backwards.

TallTines bows are great anyway you look at them....great shooters, good lookers with a style and design all their own.

When you order a bow from Brian, you'll get a great performer, but you also get to work with a man that isn't happy until, and unless you are, and that in itself is a pleasure.

I've been shooting my new bow for a week now, and like it more every day.

Someone else that owns one might be better at explaining and describing how well the bows shoot, the very distinctive design, and overall characteristics of what Brian is doing. The best I can do is tell you that you have to shoot it, in order to fully appreciate what Brian is doing.

I gotta quit talking to him....he already bout has me talked into buying another set of limbs   :)

Speaking of names...A couple months ago Brian asked for help naming is line of take-down Tall Tines recurves. I referenced to a line from my book, and suggested the “Solo Spirit.” Brian liked it as he has hunted solo many times himself. I hope that he continues to use this name to identify his TD recurve line as he did chrisom my bow with it.

My bow shoots very well from my treestand.

Here is pic Brian sent me of my new talltines bow...can't wait to get it and shoot. Bow is 62" 57# @ 29 1/2" Ziricote and Bacote with antler tips. I think it came out real well. Have never named a bow...may have to with this one.
