Hexshaft Wood Arrows?
« on: October 24, 2009, 12:46:00 PM »
Anyone heard of or used these shafts? I am looking to get a dozen quality wood arrows and was wondering if this was a good shaft to use with my new Black Widow that will be here Monday.

Call Bob at Whispering Wind, the hexshafts I've had were really good from him!

I've shot the hexpine shafts for about a year now and like them quite a bit.  And Whispering Wind is the place to go.
Enjoy your new bow!

Ditto on Whispering Wind.  I have a dozen of his footed shafts made up.  I love them and he was great to deal with.  Top notch customer service.

Go to hexshaft on line the are easy to order I have gotten deer with them and hit trees with out breaking them, if you shoot a glass backed bow get 10 to 15 spine higher then your bow pulls.I have a tomahawk SS 63# @ 29" and need spine for 70 to 75 I would buy a test kit.

Are these a laminated wood shaft? What kind of wood?

David,

Glued up but not laminated in the sense of plywood.  Bob (Whispering Wind Arrows) had a cool display at his booth at Western States.  The process starts with a lodgepole pine slat, gets V grooved, glue applied and roll into a dowel.  After drying it is put through a machine for size.

Here is graphic to show you the grain orientation:

I have a set started and am needing to get them crested and fletched.

Glue can minimize the woods ability to flex. I know this is true of other wood products that are glued...?  Just wondering about the shaft going through paradox. Also the consistancy one dozen to the next.
