Mohawk bows speed?

Hey guys!
I've heard a lot about how nice the Mohawk bows shoot and was wondering what kind of speed you all were getting as compared to something like a Widow PL? Numbers would be great also.
I know speed isn't the most important thing, but I want something that will shoot around the same speed as my high-performance recurve without having to go over 10 pounds heavier in draw.

i'm shooting 2613's...650 grains total,getting 168 fps...66" bow 60@30

2613... man that's kind of big in Dia... makes me think of shooting the whole 'fir tree' and using the branches as feathers to help stabilize..

It's gonna take a pretty radical LB to keep up with a hi perf recurve, Craig.  With your long draw, 180 fps at 9 gr/lb is pretty realistic for a moderate D/R bow.

Don't think it's gonna be as fast as a PL...a mohawk is more of a mild r/d.

What it will be is smooth, very quiet, zero handshock, easy to shoot and 60% less $$.

Easy on the eyes too
 

Judge the speed for yourself... 58lb at my DL. 650gr arrow, so 11.2gr/lb

these are my patriot missles according to wannabe1...they fly great off my bow,shot'em through paper at two distances and had perfect hole's both times...no need to mess with perfect flite eh.i was surprised they flew so nice so i'm stickin with them.

The speed of mine shootin a 600gr Heritage 150 is just right! I just love watching my arrow drop right in the pocket!!!!!!


In all honesty I have no idea what speed I'm getting and don't want to know! Good luck, the Mohawk is TOP NOTCH!!!!!!!

i'faith, it's not about arrow speed numbers, it's about a bow that just fits and feels right.

though there are some exceptions, for the most part aggressive r/d longbows will be faster than mild r/d longbows and those will be faster than reflex or straight longbows.  'faster' can mean somewhere between a few fps and the difference between a ferrari and a vw - in all circumstances there is no substitute for testing before purchasing.  

a few years ago i gave away the last of my chronographs and it felt every bit as good as when i ditched the compound and sights 30 years ago and returned to stickbows.  

my advice is not to get caught up in the speed game.  yes, it's not easy to try before you buy, but it truly is the only way to zero in on a bow that you agree with and vice versa ... one of the main reasons so many good bows can be had used and why the classifieds traffic is so high.

as always, ymmv - but it shouldn't by much.

what Rob said.  I've bought 5 bows in the month of Oct. and will be sending out an MO on Mon. for #6 on my quest for "the one" and once I find it I'll repost all the others and put the money back into my account.  The most deadly arrow is not the fastest one, but the one that hits where you want it everytime and that arrow is launched by a bow that fits you. Good luck brother, hope you find "the one" quicker than I am!

Oh, I forgot to add that bow #5 is a 64" 50#@28 Mohawk and I don't have the numbers for the speed but with my 27" draw and a 600gr. arrow it hits my old 3-d target quick from 20yds and rocks is back and forth pretty good.

I want you guys to understand that I'm not looking for speed as my number one priority here. I just want something that will give me a similar power stroke as my DAS without me having to go over 10 pounds heavier. That way I should be able to switch between the bows without much trouble. I am concerned with the efficiency of my bows, but with this one I'm willing to have to go up 10 pounds to get that same power to get a sweet shooter.

My mohawk shot a 650 grain arrow 160 fps.  It was 54@30".  Not the fastest bow but not slow.  The great thing is it is by far the quietest bow I have ever had in my hands.  Those Mohawks are smooth enough that you probably would not notice a 10 lb. increase.  They are also well made and purty, and you won't find a better dude than Vince.  Good luck on your quest.

do get the all cane limbs, both cores and veneers, for the smoothest draw and release your dollars will buy.
