The finish is automotive clear coat.  A friend owns a bump shop and sprayed it for me.  He'll probably never do another (though he is willing) because he's decided he needs to charge $150 to make any money!  On the back side of the sight window is a brass disc with my logo on it.  The glass is clear.  The black you see is the curly maple.  In the sunlight it kind of looks like cirrus clouds on a black sky.  Here's a pic of the disc side of the riser.
