Damascus heads on Surewood Shafts!
« on: November 01, 2009, 11:08:00 PM »

I purchased these damascus heads from a Tradganger quite awhile ago. I think I wanted to get my arrow building skill up to where I felt comfortable installing these beauties on an arrow that would do them justice. I think it turned out pretty good. These heads are 155gr. The arrows weigh 628gr. The fletchings are off feathers that Killdeer had sent me. The shafts are Surewood Shafts made of douglas fir grown and harvested near where I live.  I think this arrow will be first in my quiver while I pursue a blacktail buck in November!  Thanks Doug for the heads. Thanks Killdeer for the feathers.

Those are ugly. I'll come and get 'em tomorrow so you don't have to mess up your Blacktail bows with 'em. I will do that for you.

Really nice!!

Surewoods sure make a nice shaft...but why is it that mine never turn out as stunning as your's, Snag?

I think I'll be concentrating just a little extra when I am about to let one of these fly!  But that is what they are made for....to hunt with. I think I'll try one on a broadhead target today.

Thanks for the nice comments guys.

TJ, these babies are razor sharp. Doug puts an unreal edge on them. I shot one this morning into my broadhead target. I picked a corner (dangerous territory! haha) because it hadn't been touched yet. That arrow penetrated beautifully AND it hit where I was looking! They are going into my quiver! What a combo...Surewoods, real turkey feather fletchings and damascus heads!

Snag,
Could they be considered barbed?? I don't want you to miss out on hunt time because your talking to the OSP about gear issues. You just never know. Best of luck.

Great looking work. I can't tell if the shaft is tapered or rather blunt where the point is hafted on. Just a concern, please don't take it negative.

The black bear in my aviatar photo is the first critter to fall from one of those damascus points back in 2000!  I had asked Doug if he had some small damascus scraps and he said come on down (we both lived in Mazzoura at the time) and we made something like three or four points.  I used another on a doe WT and carried some for a few years looking for a brown bear opportunity.  The originals we made were 3:1.
