would this have caused my Zipper limbs to twist?

I noticed on Sat evening my bottom limb on my Zipper was twsited badly. Like, the string was tracking 1/2 way between the string groove and the edge of the limb  :(

The top limb too was twisted, in the same direction the bottom was, just less severe.

Baffling how, I always use a stringer, I take great care in storing it .... the only thing I hunted THU in heavy rain, and I had limb skin things on my limbs and they got SOAKED - like you could ring a cup of water out of them and when I put the bow up that night, I hung it from a the antlers of a mount and left it a couple of days before shooting it.

Thats when I noticed the twists ---- could leaving those wet skins on there have done it?


Using the hot water method I straighted both limbs, and the string tracks right now, but the lower still has a twist after shooting it some yesterday.

3 days from my big Kansas hunt and I got this ... great  :(    i did buy a backup Zipper and am having it shipping to where I'll be in KS but I want to know HOW my limbs twisted to begin with you know?

Limb skins, if it's what I'm thinking about, are vinyl just like arrow wraps and should NOT "absorb" any water at all.  Even still, I don't think they could warp your limbs as they don't present any tension on your limbs as they are simply stickers.  

I hope the straightening works out for you and gets it back in tip-top shape before your hunt.

Strange.  Zipper make a great bow!  I have never heard of anyone having trouble with them.  Good luck.

no, these are a the slip over type limb skins, can't remember the name of them. They absorbed a lot of water

I love my Zipper, I can't imagine it wasn't something that I did to cause the twisting just can't put my finger on it

How did you have it hanging on the antlers....

Yes it would. Moisture is a wood bows enemy. IF you have any scratches in the finish of your limbs it will be really bad. Leaving the wet skins on is like letting the bow soak in the bath tub for a few days.

Then that's what it was - good gawd what did I do  :(

I'm going to shoot it tonight and if it wasn't to twist back, maybe do the hot water method again on it, twist back and allow to cool, same procedure a second time.

I might be screwed and never get the limbs back right again too I guess.

Give Bill a call.  I'm sure he can either talk you through fixing it or get it back too him to work on.

Stuff happens, but it is usually fixable.

Let them dry out good and use a heat gun or hair dryer to warm the limbs. No sense adding more moisture to it.

If you use a heat gun just be very careful and don't hold it very close or in one place for very long because some heat guns get very hot and you could cause the limb to possibly delaminate.

I use limb skins on one of my bows (the spandex kind), and love them. I wouldn't go throwing them away just yet; however, I would take them off when you get home [if they got wet] and let them dry out before putting them back on.
