"Could have been" a beautiful bow
« on: January 06, 2007, 01:15:00 PM »
I put links to the pictures so that those on DialUp won't turn gray trying to open the thread. So click for pictures.
Started this bow a while ago  and thought to finish it yesterday. It's "finished", alright...
It was meant for a friend who does not know much about archery but who loves to play hard so I backed it with the woven fiberglass cloth for safety. It's cheatting, I know, but I didn't want to take any chances of my friend geting hurt.

 Snakeskin
 Ouch!
Dual cherry laminate. I tried using he West System Epoxy (105 + 207 special hardner.) It's the second bow I tried the epoxy with and both bows came apart. Here are a couple of pictures of the glue failure in the first bow:

What is going on??? Has anyone used this epoxy with any succes?   :help:   Is there a trick to it? Both bows came apart at the glue joint. In both I could see a shiny coat of hardened epoxy, very poor penetrationn no wood torn off...
I'm really confused.
