Bow holder for your treestand, what are you using?
« on: November 06, 2009, 05:29:00 PM »
For those of you using a bow holder while hunting, can you describe it to me? I have a few of the rubber coated hooks that screw into a tree but I was really interested in knowing if anyone has a gadget or suggestion for an apparatus that attaches directly to the treestand platform.

my hand. I never put the bow down or hang it up.  Never have.  I figure if I'm hunting, I should be ready.

I made one with 2 small rods. They stick out the left side of my platform and you stick the bottom limb in between them. The bow stands up at a slight forward angle. It's right by my bowhand. Works great.
I don't have a problem.  I can quit deer hunting anytime I want.

I have seen that accessory for wheelie bows but I was not aware there was such an item for a trad bow--That would be great. I almost never put my bow down, but there are times I like to glass my hunting area, which requires to hands. Especially if you are studying a certain deer.

I have these attached to the tree stands that I use. The top part (HME) was bought at Dick's and I take it off and move it from one tree stand to another. The HME part works with longbows or recurves. The rest of the material was purchased at Home Depot.

I changed the 8" dim to 10" so I have a little more room. This setup puts the bow right at hand level while I am setting in the stand. With the arrow nocked, I am ready to go and movement is minimal when I reach for the bow. I have used this setup for three years now with no problems. My hands get cold easily while sitting motionless for hours on end so I need to keep them covered in a hand muff if I'm am going to be effective while hunting.

I use one of the short Realtree EZ Hangs. It folds up into my fanny pack and allows me to easily hang my bow wherever I like without it hugging against the tree trunk.

I hold mine 90% of the time. I use the bow holder in my lone wolf platform the other 10%.

Screw in bowholder....the kind that look like a little tree step...

I'll be honest, if I had to hold my bow the whole time I was in my tree, especially when it gets cold, it would take away some of the enjoyment of being there for me.

Cold hands are not good shooting hands.....

How about if you need to use your bino's an a critter that a ways off?

How do you rattle?

How about if you have to relieve yourself?

etc....

I should've said on my lap. I can rattle, pee in a bottle, and use bino's/camera/video and even read. When it gets cold My hands are in gloves and in my hand warmer pouch ( the ones that you put around your waste and slid your hands in ). Now this was all done where I used to live in Jersey and the deer all came down the hill the same way.

They had to walk past me to get to the feeders that where set up 100 yards behind me. On my friends yard. when I hunted on another friend land.

bunjee cord. wrap around the tree and hook together. you can hang your bow from one of the S hooks. cheapo, easy and no damage to the tree. use them all the time. can hang your pack and anything you need to from it.

I use a strap-on step to hang the bow while I'm putting on my gloves, face mask, etc. After that the bow is in my hand.

Spare tree step wrapped in electrical tape, a bi-fold bow holder-team realtree or the like. I cant hold my bow the whole time.

Good call on the bungee cord Ken...think I will add one to my pack.

I usually have knee boots on and slip the bow down in it when my hand needs a break.
