Go figure, this Friday the 13th turned out to be a pretty good afternoon at my place in MO. This buck originally was walking right behind me and set to come out at about 20 yards. I had to turn around (slowly) to get into position to shoot as he came in from behind.
Although I thought I didn't make any noise, I obviously spooked him and he almost came unglued! But sure enough, shortly he crept back into an opening, but this time at about 35 yards.
I was having to shoot across the top of my Summit platform and could only get about 80% of full draw. But I knew that I needed to release the string as it was starting to get dark.
To my chagrin, I saw that I only got limited penetration, but felt it was a decent shot. I thought I heard him crash, but all kinds of second guesses were going through my head.
After waiting about 30 minutes after dark, my hunting buddy and I started looking for blood. At first we couldn't locate even the first drop of blood, then just a very small drop, but with a few more yards it started to open up so well. Kinda a trickle, flow, flood type trail that was easy to follow with our flashlights.
The fat little buck ran about 110 yards and the Wensel Woodman really did a number on him, revealing about 8" penetration at most on my forward shoulder shot.
BTW, I apologize for the "graphic" nature of these photos, should have cleaned him up a bit before my buddy snapped these. 58" DAS Daala 55@28".
