Ray,
That is a great area! I think it may be the Kansas River (not Missouri). My wife is from a little North of there (Marysville, Kansas). I was out there hunting last weekend hunting. Saw a biggun from far away, he walked within 50 yards of my friend.
By the way, I would be more than happy to provide a hunting vehicle and portable treestand if there is an extra tree for me, LOL! Even if there is not I could take you on some of the property that I have to hunt!
I haven't deer hunted there but have fished watershed ponds and bird hunted in the Frankfort and Manhattan area. Plenty of deer and the occasional monster buck!
When are you thinking of coming? If you haven't checked it out, a tag is going to run you around $400. That is an non resident either sex tag and a non-res hunting license. Not sure if there are any tags still available in that unit for this year, you would have to check with Kansas Parks and Wildlife.
If you are going to spend the money and bowhunt, you should plan on being here in mid to late November. I would say mid-Nov thru Thanksgiving is the best time of the year. Anytime in November is good. First week you are still usually in pre-rut and second week activity really picks up.
Unfortunately, I will be at a woodcarving show this weekend or you can bet I would be on stand! Gotta talk to them about not scheduling this show on the best weekend of the year to deer hunt!
Shoot me an email and I will help however I can!
Chip
