Inspired by this post I hit the woods this morning with a couple of hammer heads. Stalked up on a grey squirrel feeding on acorns and shot. Missed and the arrow clattering thru the palmettos jumped up the biggest buck I've seen all season!  :banghead:    :banghead:    :banghead:  No squirrel, no deer!

Plenty fun watching the squirrels try to climb a greased pole to get to the bird feeder.

m midd,

Don't know if you realize it or not but they sure look like oyster shell mushrooms growing on that log.  Them things are GOOD eating!  Bread them and deep fry them then dip in ranch dressing.  MmmmmmmmmmmmMMMMMmm!

p.s.  Since mushroom identification is an iffy thing, don't take my word for it.  Get a book or look on line to check shrooms for your region.  But I'm pretty darned sure about them.
Dave

I've come to believe that the keys to shooting well for me are good form, trusting the bow to do all the work, and having the confidence in the bow and myself to remain motionless and relaxed at release until the arrow hits the mark.

Swampdrummer, I spooked so many deer trying to shoot squirrels in the past, I quit shooting at them! Now I only take a shot at one if I'm ready to quit and go in.

I've shot my fair share off of bird feeders. Squirrels are FAST. Congrats to you guys getting them with trad equipment.  So far, I've only managed it with a .22 or a compound.

Last week I had a doe coming my way - looked promising.  Had a squirrel jump in to the cedar tree I was in and landed about 18 inches from my head.  It's a pretty small cedar so it shook the top of the tree - naturally I turned my head - and when I did the squirrel let out the darnedest sound I've ever heard - then jumped back to a branch 8 ft away and announced my presence to everything in a quarter mile radius.  The old doe took heed and took an alternate route around my tree.  One of these days . . .
