Too excited!
« on: November 20, 2009, 03:49:00 PM »
The guy who fixes the air-con in our hose came by yesterday to do a few small maintainance jobs. Anyway, he noticed all my bows hanging around & we start nattering about hunting. He mentioned, offhand, that he owns 25 acres of land 10 minutes from my house & that his son has taken some big (Tennessee big, not Iowa big) bucks off of the property, but he doesn't really have any interest in hunting anymore. We chatted for a few more minutes & off he goes to another job.

Just now, there was a knock at my back door & it's him again. Just wanted to let me know that he's been sat watching a lot of deer on his land this morning & last night. Seein as his son no longer hunts & he has little to no interest himself, would I like to go hunt his land? Not just tomorrow morning, ANYTIME I LIKE!!!   :clapper:    :clapper:

I'm gonna take a ride over there on Sunday & get a bit of the lay of the land, but I'm too excited! This is the first piece of private property I've been granted the chance to hunt on since I got here, everywhere else is either hunted by the landowner, or leased off for a ridiculous sum ($100 per acre, per year seems to be the norm round here)

Anyway, I just wanted to share the good news  :D  :D

Very cool, Rob! Have you had a chance to shoot at a deer this year? Have fun scouting!

Awesome Bro, always exciting getting to stomp on new ground. Hope it works out for you. Have the first doe you shoot made up into summer sausage and give the landowner a crate full. Some cheap lease rent if you ask me.

Great Luck.  Some of those smaller places are overlooked and can be really good.  Careful coming up with a (stealthy) way in.

Rob,

After you've had a chance to spend some time on his land, you might consider giving him one of your small knives.  I know what that would me to me as a landowner.  He has shared something personal with you, and I bet he would love something that came from your hands...

Not trying to butt in, but I bet you could pour some "cement" on this relationship in short order!
