« on: November 21, 2009, 11:19:00 AM »
hello everyone i just finished a board bow and am in need of a string untill i can find someone here to make them or get the items to make one my self  #1 reason is i don't know what to get and have been reading on how to make them but not for sure yet .
 # 2 what is the string going to cost me it needs to be 70 inches long that will give me a 7 1/4 brace hight
should i go a little longer and get the brace height down a little.
then maybe 70 1/2 . .

any help would be apprec.

thanks,
Scott

Scott, a store bought string should cost you about $9-$10 and the length should not make a difference in the cost. If you get a string with a loop for the top limb and a bowyers knot for the bottom limb you can make the adjustments for higher or lower brace height by moving the knot. You are limited to only an inch or 2 of adjustment if you use a string with 2 loops.
A string is very simple to make and if you are going to make bows, making your own strings is a natural progression. For what you pay for a store bought string you can make probably 10 strings if you buy the materials.
Make the most of all that comes and the least of all that goes!
