First Trad Whitetail
« on: November 23, 2009, 02:14:00 PM »
Yesterday morning i got in my stand at about 6:30. My dad decided to hunt on the ground about 150 yards from where my stand is. At about 9:30 i heard some commotion to my left i looked and saw this buck trotting fast towards my stand. I quickly nocked an arrow onto my string expecting about a ten yard shot directly in front of my stand. But the the buck suddenly changed his route and turned to his right up the hill. Reacting quickly i stopped the buck at 15 yards and shot. I saw the arrow hit much farther back than i had wanted. I watched the buck run full speed with the arrow sticking out of him. He ran directly towards my dad. When I talked to my dad later he said that my buck had bedded down in front of him, and then a huge buck chased my buck off. My dad would shoot at the big buck but we found very little blood and never recovered his deer. There was also very little blood from my deer but I eventually found him. I was extemely happy to have killed my first deer with a traditional bow.    http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx73/buckeyebowhunter/192.jpg

wow.  Nice deer. Congrats on being able to stop him and take the shot under pressure.  Where did you end up hitting him and how hard was the recovery (how far did he go etc)?  I'm glad yall were able to find him!
I have that exact same natural gear fleece and the beanie style visor. I love that fleece... I use it in west texas, south texas and east texas...it seems to work everywhere!
Congrats again thats a serious First deer!

To answer a few of your guys qustions I hit him in the guts but the shot was quartering away so the Muzzy Phantom got up into the liver area and did some serious damage causing a lot of internal bleeding. The blood trail was very faint a very tough trail as the arrow acted as a cork. After the Huge buck had chased him off he ran for at least another 200 yards. The bow is  custom by Tracy trickett, Shadowhawk Recurve 64" 50 lbs at 28 inches. Maple limbs, and locust/osage riser with a littl bit of purple heart and a beaver tail grip. And those are not wraps those are custom crests done by Paul Mattson at Badger arrows.com
