Where to buy Wood Shafts?
« on: November 24, 2009, 09:07:00 PM »
I used to buy a variety of wooden shafts from a place called Silent Pond.  Are they still around?  They had many types of wood available and were pretty reasonable.  They had Birch, Ash, Maple and a few others I think.

Who are good sources of shafts these days and what types of woods do they offer?  Who has the best prices?

I still have a quite a few shafts and wooden arrows but most were for a 55lb longbow and are spined for 65 to 70 lbs or so. Chundoo wood was my favorite.  I am thinking I am needing a lower spine weight these days.

Thanks

Neutron: I made lots of arrows with shafts from Silent Pond and I have a bunch left. I may or may not have your spine. If I do I will be happy to talk to you. What do you need?

You won't be sorry if you go with Surewoods. Finest shafts on the market today! Really a joy to make arrows out of these.

Twig....haven't ordered from them for awhile, but they're who I'll order from next.

Poplar, chundoo, cedar, ramin, highland pine. Raw shafts, prefinished or finished arrows. Parallel, tapered, barrel tapered and stumpers.

No website that I know of. Not a real big operation but a great place for arrows/shafts.

Over the years I have tried most wooden shafts,Ash,laminated birch, hex pine, pine and of coarse cedar. All have their pros and cons but this year I decided to try sitka spruce and in my opinion are the best wood sharts out there. They are as straight as premium cedar shafts and are as tough as nails.Hunting weight shafts are available (370g to 390g) for the raw shaft.
Try giving Neil Hidebrand at Hildebrand Arrow Shafts a call @1-866-568-0232,he will be more than happy to help you,Dell.

Don't forget Fletch.  He just sent me some shafts to try.  "Shoot them, change them up, do what you need to make them work, then send them back once you figure out what you need"  is what he told me.  I WILL buy my shafts from someone that is willing to help you out like that.  They are smokin' shafts to boot.

I have a limited number of barreled poplar shafts left, from my old Superceder stock. No more in the 50-60 ranges, but I do have them over and under that. PM me if interested and I'll send you a list of what's available.
