« on: November 27, 2009, 01:39:00 PM »
Know there some of you out there.
New to Trad hunting after hunting with a flintlock for the past 10 years and just "MESSING" with the bow.
Looking for anyone interested in just shooting some targets and maybe givien me some pointers.
Just got a few bow blanks in from dryad i am planing to work on with a friend in Gonzales.

I work with leather also and planing to bet ass sponsor staus on here to sell my quivers and bowsocks and possibles bags.

I have 4.5 acres in east BR.
Have some woods behind house I hunt and looking for other places to go.
Live close to Oneal lane area and shoot everyday. Anyone want to come by and shoot drop me a PM.
Better than drivin to the range if ya live in a subdivision!!!!
I know there is a few trad clubs around but havent seen them hold any events recently and hope to meet others in the area.
In fact I am refinishing a bow right now and fixin to go shoot as soon as i finish  :)
Happy Holidays

Ken, lots of LA folks on this site.  In fact you are right on top of one of the state's largest traditional clubs, the Amite River Traditional Archery Club, or ARTAC.  They are headquartered out of Denham Springs, but shoot at the Wildlife and Fisheries Waddel location just two miles from you.  It is wooded with hills, not common in Baton Rouge.  Google them and give them a call.  They host one of the finest 3D shoots in the South, The Real Thing.  Great location, great course, great people, you name it.  One year they even had a gorilla swinging on a trapeze coming right at you!!!  Alligators that charge out of the water, turkeys flying, running hogs, a crazy beaver that makes a mad dash, man they pull out the stops. The Real Thing shoot is the last weekend in May.  They leave part of the course, not the full thing, set up most of the year.  For a small membership charge and hole poking privledge fee, you are in.  A fine location with great parking right in the middle of Baton Rouge.  Great people.  The secretary, is tough character, not!! He is a good man, tell him I sent you. I will not say his name, but he lives in the Drusilla Lane area.

Give them a call.

I'm in Gonzales and work in Metairie and Baton Rouge.  After the season, ARTAC is a fun group to shoot with.  They put on the best 3D shoots I've been to.  Which Dryad model did you get?  I finished one of their bbo's a year or so ago.  Its a really good shooting bow.

Ken, I'm in south Baton Rouge and am an Artac member. There is often a group of us who shoot at the club's 3d range at Wadill Center on N. Flannery on Saturdays and I can shoot during the week. If you are interested, email me

How far from you is Prairieville?

I live just south of Baton Rouge, north of Gonzales in a subdivision off of Jefferson Hwy.  Shoot every day in my back yard.  I hunt wooded areas around some subdivisions and I have permission to hunt a piece of private land close to BR. I also hunt WMA's in LA and MS. I hunt with recurve or longbow only; haven't hunted with a rifle in years.  The only 3D shooting I do is the Real Thing put on by ARTAC usually at the end of May each year.
It's not what you kill but how you hunt...
