Please don't rush him. If you get him frazzled, he just might measure your bow with a micrometer, mark it with a piece a chalk, then cut it with an axe.

Chalk?  I don't need no stinkin chalk.  Like the hatchet more then the axe though.  I have made my share of bows with a hatchet.
