Joe, thanks for posting the pics....and for getting my arrow. I'd still be stuck in that tree and mistaken for a very large ugly racoon   ;)

Had a great time, met some fine folks, fell in love with that Coot-Dog too!

Thanks Paul for heading up the 2nd annual hunt, may there be many more

Thank you Paul,  for organizing the day and to Joe and Bob for being gracious enough to let us hunt your property.  A great day overall, with probably at least 30-40 or more shots taken that morning!  Some of those shots were even at rabbits!

Thanks again.  Very generous of you all.

It was good to see you guys again, and meet some new guys as well.

Paul, my son and I left without saying THANK YOU! We had a great time and really appreciate all the work you put into the hunt. Thanks to Joe and Bob for the use of their hunting land!

Jerry K. told me how to straighten my old Ben Pearson recurve. I've almost got it perfect. It's over 30 years old, my first hunting bow. My oldest wants to shoot it. He won a set of Beaver Balls at the raffle and I put them on the bow, it's just about ready to go. The bow he is holding in the photo with the coons is mine from 35+ years ago. I guess he wants to upgrade, HA!

We didn't get any shots at rabbits, but we did help put a dent in the coon population.

Notes for next time:

(1) Don't forget the venison sausage and cheese in the refrigerator next time.

(2) Bring a couple of arrows with broadheads next time in case we run into raccoons again.

(3) While others are still out hunting and you are standing around by the truck shooting the bull, keep your bow strung and arrows handy in case you see a rabbit!

(4) If you leave your truck back at the range and ride with someone else to the hunting area, don't forget your snowshoes in your truck back at the range.

(5) Blunts, even metal ones, don't penetrate raccoon hide. (see number item number 2)

(6) No matter what happens you will have fun!

Thanks Again!

Sorry about the delay. As promised, here are a few photos...

My daughter, Rachel with our beagle, Emmett, and Ben and Chuck with their beagle, Cricket.

Emmett with a nose full of something that he and Cricket were trying to dig out. A couple minutes later, both dogs had found a tunnel into the source of the smell, which we discovered was a pair of raccoons cornered in their den. The dogs were nose to nose with the coons when I scrambled to pull them out of the den.

Both dogs made it out unscathed, and the raccoons treed.

Shot angles were steep and tight. Being a nonresident without a furbearer license, I was content to watch events unfold behind my camera lens instead of my bow.

Emmett inspecting one of the raccoons.

When it was all said and done, both raccoons were brought to bag. Fortunately, neither raccoon attacked the dogs. A friend of mine's black lab needed several stitches after a similar encounter with a raccoon last year, so I'm still a little perplexed as to how these beagles avoided disaster.
