I set out to kill one particular buck this year (solid 160 class). It was going to be him or nothing.
Ive been chasing him for two years (missed him last year, shot right over his back) This was him in 2008.
Saw him four times. Once (October 15th) at 5 feet......no ethical shot.
November 30, with rifle season fast approaching, I decided to take this one. I have several photos of this deer over the last 3 years but have never laid eyes on him in person. He is at least 4.5 years old and is a real toad.
He has always been somewhat "antler challenged" but he was by far the most illusive of all the mature deer I have photos of. I About fell over when he stepped out of the brush, I knew him immediately.
This is him in 2008. Notice last year he was 5 on the left and four on the right.
I let him walk almost out of view so to get the wind right. Hit him with a snort wheeze and a brief clash of antlers that brought him by me at 28 yards while he was attempting to get down wind of me.
He went about 80 yards.
All and all it was a great season. I hunted a lot of hours, passed on several big deer that if they make it through rifle season will be fantastic deer next year.
Didn't shoot the biggest one but for sure one of the most illusive........pure luck. Rather be lucky than good.
