Yeah i understand your problem.  My brother thought i was the biggest redneck when i kept telling how much fun it was, but now hes hooked.  Hopefully i can make it to the IL river this summer.
Im surprised more trads are not checking it out, most fun you can have with a bow during summer months imho of course.

I used to Love shooting carp back in Michigan! Some friends and I are working on a proposal for the March board of fish meeting that would make archery harvest of fish legal anywhere snagging is. That's dang near all salt water for all 5 species of salmon! The new rags would allow archery harvest of halibut as well.

Man I hope it passes! I'll be standing on a ladder in the bow of my friends landing craft sighting in on 40 pound silvers and 70+ pound kings! Heck I probably will be able to give dip netting a pass entirely!

great to see someone so pro active in the promoting of stickin fish.  Just watched the aerial bowfishing dvd and am already excited to fight off this long winter to shoot stuff in the warmer weather.

Bill neat little craft you got there, looks like it would work great for ducks as well.

Nice harvest BTW I used to work the rivers around Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti and Saline for carp.

that is the perfect little mobile rig, i bet its great for hittin a ton of out of the way spots.  Im betting you wade while you shoot right?  If not my hats off looks like it would take some serious balance to shoot out of that.

I love bowfishing, and yes I've tried silvers. The silvers are kind of like pheasant hunting for fish, only a lot more difficult to hit.

Rick,

It works great for ducks.  That was the primary reason I bought it.  I can lay flat in it with my decoys around me and nearly have ducks landing within spitting distance.

I can navigate that kayak in 8" of water.  At least until I'm on about my 10th carp.  You can get out and wade, but the fish are alot less spooked if you stay in it for some reason.  I shoot in it from my knees, and yes it takes some getting used to.

The funnest thing about it is once you hit a 25+lb carp he can literally pull you sideways through the water.  As long as your point can hold up it's quite the ride.

Been shootin silver carp outta the air since before it was cool.  Filmed a show for KY Afield some 8 years ago or so and shot one outta the air on camera.  Turned around and hit a pheasant on the wing about 4 years later while filming with the same group of guys.  Who says lightin doesn't strike the same place twice.
Shootin silvers looks fun, but it's really not my cup.  Give me the bigheads in the 50-60# range any day.  Shoot a 1/2 dozen of them and they'll wear you out!
My largest fish to date is a 185# gator gar on a DIY trip to Texas 2 years ago.  Prob my favorite hunting trip of all time!

now that the ice is covering the lakes and hunting season is winding down im going to build a few test bows rigged up just for fish.  Already started a short hickory r/d longbow with large riser built in for either reel mount application.  A lot of people i know shoot compounds, if i build enough stick and string set ups hopefully i can pull a couple more people in to trad archery.
