Like puppies, if you will train them when they are fawns they will come to a whistle as adults.

I just use my regular old cell phone, but them buggers have caller ID and it's hard to get em to answer some times!

Well I might as well have been, I haven't been able to get anything to respond to anything. Usually the tending grunts are killer, but not this year. I must be out of tune!  :banghead:

I've always found that making deer sounds really helps if you want to call deer.

Never had any luck calling by barking like a dog, or pig grunting, or duck calls..none of those ever called up deer.

A few years back when hunting some local state land I would get near a funnel area leading from some swampy bottoms next to a big holly tree and shake the crap out of it and break a few branchs then keep still for a few minutes and repeat every 1/2 hr.Pulled in several that way on different outings...I didn't do this too much cause I was afraid someone else might be hunting and wonder what the heck was going on down there and fire a bullet into where the sound was coming from...

Tried grunts and bleat with no success thus far.  Maybe I need to try rattling.

Rattling has not been as effective for me as grunting and snort wheezing.

All that grunting, snort wheezing, burping, etc., educates the animals into expecting hunters more often than deer during hunting season.  The use of treestands over the decades has taught deer to look into the trees; the use of scents has taught them to avoid most scent trails; the incessant calling and grunting is teaching them to avoid that as well.  I like being silent.

I've found the grunt call to be very effective in bringing in bucks that I have seen that are passing out of range.
