Would they work while floating in a canoe?
Need something to help with those dastardly pine flys.

I dont think they would as all the vapors would go away as you paddled.

It probably would if you placed it so that the vapors would be blowing on you. Then the permitheum would stay on your clothing.

I would just keep it up wind of you in the canoe and put it down out of the wind. It should work well enough to keep them off until their is enough wind to keep them from flying. Give it a try and let us know how it works.

Oh course my question would be where would you find little or no wind while in a canoe? I never have. And it's always IN your face too.

I use one in a canoe down here in S Florida. Just meandering thru swamps and such. I've found that if theres enough wind or I'm paddling fast enough to make the thermacell inneffective then theres enough wind to keep most of the skeeters away.

Back before thermacells were around I used to float the saline creek in North Louisiana in a canoe. I found that if I had one of the repellant coils that you light going and placed in the middle of the canoe it kept the skeeters off. I was moving slow and fishing so the repellant hung around good enough.

Wanted it for shooting carp this summer it is slow moving water.BobW surely you have pine flies aka(horse flies) in NY I'm not that far south of you. If you don't be glad they are nasty biting buggers.
I'll try a repellent coil first.

If you get the cover for the Thermocell you can put it on your belt.

They work for boating. I use mine while fishing in my boat on the lake as well as in my smaller boat while creek floating as well. Just like swampdrummer said, if you're going fast enough for the vapors to be ineffective then you'll be going fast enough that the bugs won't bother you. I second the holster as well.
