Howdy Cooter - just had the pleasure of explaining "Cooter Skin" backing to someone a few weeks back. I still have a maple board bow backed with it that Mickey gave me a long time ago. You'll be glad to know the bow and backing performed beautifully while dispatching a rat in my backyard a few years ago.   :archer:    :)

Don't be a stranger.......or any stranger than ya already are!  :p

Hey Cooter. Good to see you're back. We've missed you at MoJam. Loyd & Sylvia still make it there & Mudd is back. Come on back down this July if you can.We still set up down near the hooter. Take care.

How dare you call Trouble with the Truth aka Liar a Blackmouth cur. He's OMCBA all the way and KSBA, and NKC and UKC. He's 3 times World Champion 3 or 4 times Missouri State Champion, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota State Champion. These are titles are for both Coon and squirrel. He's so versatile you can hunt him day or night, he doesn't care. He's a couple of wins away from Super Grand Bench Champion. He'll never make it to that level because I quit going to the hunts..lol
I can use him to bow hunt either squirrel or Coon. Now if he'd just retrieve my arrows when I miss..lol

Hey Cooter,

Nice to hear from ya.  30% might be aggressive depending on the wood's moisture content to start.  If it's pretty dry, it'll probably be OK.
Take a kid hunting!

Mudd, ya know I was just giving you a hard time   :notworthy:

Hi John, nice to hear from ya as well, I was thinking of ramping the RH either up or down in my box depending what the ambient RH is in my home. MN Winter's can get the house a little dry.

Some ten years ago or so didn't we have a discussion here with the general concensous being that it was ok to take an osage/bamboo laminate up/down to an environment of 30% RH to achieve an optimum moisture content within the working limb so that it did not explode or take excessive set.
Or was the concensous that the bow's environment should be more around 40% RH to have the desired affects? It's been a looong while since I've done this. Hope it's like riding a bike   :biglaugh:

Talk to ya later,
Cooter

OK Ferret, where are ya when a person needs some bow advice? LOL, kinda like the time I was doing some minor heat bending of a handle and ended up with charcoal. LOL, or was it Pablo that gave me the advice of about 15 min per 1/4 inch.    :banghead:

I just had a mental flashback...lol We were at Steve H's place, you had a new mackinaw on with one of those awesome wood eaters in your hands... I hope it was a lesson learned... always button up any loose clothing when using any kind of power tool...hahahaha
God bless,Mudd

PS You'll have to forgive me Cooter for spilling the beans. Wow! I just got hit by another of a very low hanging camper trying to cross a low water creek. Yes one can put too much Osage on a camper top..lol

Still use that jacket from November through April. I just look at that incident as customizing, thought the jacket looked better with three pockets at the time. LOL.

And quite spreading rumors, we both know I could have got another ten or twenty osage roughed outs on the top of that camper. And you got to admit even a horse needs a shove from the back side from time to time to get going.

Loyd about the only thing I seldom miss is a meal..lol
I'm counting Butch to be there to help me celebrate the new legs..lol

Cooter, I let a kid shoot the bow you made me. I even let him take it home with the instructions to NOT to try stringing it without the aid of a bow stringer. The next day his dad tells me he broke the bow. It seems when no one was at home with him he wanted to string it and decided that if he ploaced his foot in the middle of the bottom limb he could get it bent enough to get the string on..lol I could read the whole story the second I laid eyes on the bow.
I didn't yell or scream, rant or rave but loaned him a bow he couldn't break. The solid fiberglass bow that had been cut into and made into a take down, covered with rawhide stained an Osage orange color with the back covered with rattlesnake skins. It sure looked like a great Osage recurve..lol I also made up my mind he wouldn't be touching any of my other wood bows..lol I mean if he could break the "Cooter stick" he could break about anything else I owned.
God bless,Mudd

Speaking of that OK contingent, anyone ever hear from "The Hinge"? Last I heard he was last seen doing some unspeakable acts to the north west yew forest of Washington or was it Oregon   :p

Hey Loyd how you been? Still making knives along with the arra flingers?

No sir Mr. Cooter. No sinew but something black, could have been died "Cooter Paper". It was definitely black and if it'd been sinewed that skinny little stick of a boy wouldn't have ever broken it.

Ok Mudd now you got me firing on one cylinder. I just have to give the other seven a rest from time to time. I remember that bow now. Yep one of the Cooter Skin jobs I did. The black coloring was actually ink from a sharpie felt tip pen.   :scared:   I think I now see you logic in you teaching these young'ns to shoot. So you can take them on squirrel hunts with ya for use as a dog retriever.     :biglaugh:
