Buying your Kid a custom bow
« on: December 16, 2009, 08:07:00 PM »
Ok now you guys have got me interested.  I really never thought much about getting my daughter a custom bow.  She loves shooting and I did promise her a bow when I get home from Iraq next year.  So my question where should I start looking or talking to about it?  Still pretty new myself and missed hunting this season due to deployment, but excited about next year and getting home to BAMA!   The daughter who is 11 is rubbing it in already that she has already killed a freezer full of deer this year.    :)

Just a thought, you could get a takedown, so as he gets stronger you will just need a new set of limbs instead of a whole new bow.

My daughters both have one piece Maddog bows.

I bought my son a Shawnee. He's right, I'm left but Shawnee limbs are interchangeable. In the long run it is a more versatile program. Once older and you both go on hunting trips back up and spares can be cut back if both using same interchangable equipment.

This is a custom r/d longbow that a guy named Jeff Findish built for my son. It is simply a scaled down version of his regular longbow. Kingwood riser, paufero highlights, curly maple limp veneers, and mammoth ivory tip overlays. FF string, beaver fur silencers, fur shelf pad.

It is an awesome bow, and the work is as good as anyone's, and I mean anyone's. He is from PA, and I found him on ****. If interested I will try to put you 2 together. The bow cost me $395.

Don't know exactly what you are looing for or what your idea of custom is. Thanks for serving buddy, appreciate your sacrifice!

If you are going to have a custom bow made has she shot enough different kinds of bows to know what she wants; weight, amo length, kind of grip, longbow/recurve/selfbow, fast vs. forgiving, etc?

While you are deployed you might want to have her go to some trad gatherings and shoot lots of different bows. Figuring it out is half the fun.
