While the deer are all still in the state of mind hunting season puts them in I would get out and start "hunting" escape routes. IMO understanding their escape routes is paramount. It gives you an advantage when trailing sparse blood. Also it gives you a better idea where they are going when you jump a few stillhunting, possibly leaving you with the right info to cut them off and set up for a shot on the "one that got away."
I'm always learning something new about the local deer whenever I get out and "study" their current escape routes.
This is also a good time to sharpen tracking skills. The more you do it the better you become.
For me even though the season is over I always try to put a positive spin on everything so I just see it as next season's hunt has just begun.
