Check out my father-in-law's christmas gift...
« on: December 21, 2009, 07:48:00 PM »
I made this for my Father-in-Law for Christmas. It's for the family's cabin (in Dolly Sods, WV). His name is Harry and he's as bald as a baby's butt... that's why the intentional misspelling of his name. Anyway, I just wanted to share; I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. It's a combination of carving, wood burning, and paint.
Here's a pic of the whole thing

Here are a few closer shots of the individual pieces.

That's sweet. It looks like that took quite some time to make.

Way cool, Cookus!  I take it he's not the sensitive type.

That looks great, I guess your father-n-law is as bald as Dolly Sods. Merry Christmas.

Lots of laughs guys!   My father-in-law is a good-natured 71 year old minister who was formerly a USMC captain.   At 71 he can still do a 3 mile hike uphill without stopping!   If anyone is familiar with the Dolly Sods Wilderness area, you know this is quite a feat!   Harry kindled my interest in the stickbow (recurve) many years ago and I look forward to the time spent in the mountains of our home state every year.   This gift is a small token of my appreciation for a man that I thoroughly respect and admire.      Harry is "follically challenged" (I am too by the way!) but takes great pride in pointing out the fact that the good Lord only made so many perfect heads... The rest he covered with hair!
