Glue for fletching carbon shafts
« on: April 12, 2007, 10:17:00 PM »
I fletched some GT traditional shafts last summer using Duco Cement after cleaning with denatured alchohol.  Had no problems and it was difficult to remove damaged feathers for repairs.  A few days ago I fletched a couple of Easton ST 400 carbon shafts using the same denatured alchohol and Duco Cement. The cement did'nt bond at all.  Feathers fell off and glue was easily removed with very little effort using my thumb nail.  What should I use as a cleaner and adhesive on Easton or Beman shafts?

Cleaner--hot water (from the tap, not the oven!) and wipe off the oils.  Some people use that special carbon-prep stuff...I don't bother, but it's up to you.

Glue with fletch-tite platinum in the silver tube, not the regular white...

Take Care,

On carbon arrows I like to use wraps because it is alot easier to remove the fletching without scrapping the shaft. But for glue I use Platinum Fletch-tite whether I'm using wraps or glueing on the carbon arrow.I use the Platinum on all my arrows.

Fletch-Tape...have yet to find and arrow it won't work on. Works just fine on my Axis 400's...

Thanks.  I'll give the Platinum a try.  I know lots of folks use the fletch tape, but I just prefer to use glue.

Had a bunch of feathers come off Beman MFX shafts after using fletch tite platinum.  Shafts were cleaned with acetone.  I don't use it anymore on the Bemans or Axis shafts. I have been using kwik it thick and have had great success since.  I've used platinum on CX, goldtip, arrow dynamics, aluminums and glass shafts and it hold like nails.  Just have had to many bad experience with it on Easton carbons that I won't use it anymore. dino
