Newbie arrow selection question.....
« on: December 21, 2009, 09:38:00 PM »
I just got a bow that I'm going to try and use. I've got to get some arrows to start. Here's my setup:

R/H Toelke Whip longbow
47# @ 28" my draw is 29.5"
I want to shoot Gold Tips if possible, because I have ready access to a dealer here and I have had excellent results with them for several years with those "other" bows. Can any of you guys get me in the ballpark as far as shaft size, point weight, etc?
If you need more information, I'll be keeping an eye on the post and will provide everything I can. I would hate to go and buy a bunch of different arrows, tips, etc if I don't have to. Thanks for a great  site and thanks in advance for your input. By the way, the main use of this bow will be for deer and hogs.

Is your draw 29.5" on a trad bow or 29.5" on one of those "other bows"?  Probably 55-75s

My guess is 5575's.  I just bare shaft tuned my Timberhawk 45#@29" with 3555's and I had to cut them more than I wanted.  I don't have good broadhead clearance on them.  You will probably end up with fairly long arrows, but too long is much better than too short.

55/75 and about 200 up front with a 30.5" shaft. Be prepared to go up or down 50 grains on the front end and you should be real close.

According to the spine calculator
5575
30.75 bop
50 gr insert
125gr head
Should get you close
Pretty close to what Shaun said
