« on: December 23, 2009, 10:10:00 AM »
Hey guys my dad and i were looking at some black widow Short Recurves and PL longbows. But the web site doesnt have very good pictures of either bows. I was wondering how many of you guys shoot these bows what are your thoughts and if you have any pictures could you please post. Thanks.

I don't have any pictures but I have owned both a Black Widow short recurve and a PL.

Mine were older so didn't have the P prefix. Both were excellent bows, the recurve was a little too short for me so I sold that. The longbow was great, one thing worth a mention is the grip which was a little fuller than most longbows I have tried.

Just found a couple of pictures but there are not very good I'm afraid.

I have owned 3 or 4 PL's and currently have a 64 inch 60@28 PLV take down, the pl's have a diffrent grip than Gilf's  post, alot slimmer,I am sure some one will post up some pics, they are a excellent bow, I dont think you can go wrong with a pl.. I havent shot a psr though

Grips are a personal choice,I much prefer the grip on the newer PL longbow grip over the grip of the older LAG longbows. But that is me and what I like.

These are my PLs. I've had good luck with them since they were prototypes.

Top down:
PLX td graybark crossgrain
PLX td osage
PLX td autumn oak crossgrain
PLX td osage (extra grainy)
PL III td painted (they hate it when you do that   :)  )
PLX td bocote

The PSRs I've shot were handy feeling, but I'm just more of a longbow person.

Had an LIW longbow (predecessor to the PL) and I liked it. Bought a PSR and now it is my go to bow!

buckeye,

I've owned both at the same time and they are great bows. They both were the greybark models. The PSR was a little quicker and the PL was a little quieter. They shot very similiar to me...easy to switch back and forth.

I think after the first of the year they are going to come out with another short bow. It is supposed to be a shortened psa riser.

I've got a 56 inch PSR III and am very happy with it.  It's 50lb @ 28 inches, were I to do it again (and I probably will at some point) I'd go with a 58 inch length.

The PSR and PL will shoot within 3 or 4fps of eachother.   IMO the PL is a better shooting bow.  Although neither is noisy, the PL is quieter.  And more forgiving.

I've owned both. I've sold both. I bought another PL, shorter and lighter 62", 57@28 instead of 64", 63@28. It shoots great. I would consider buying another 58" PSR for these "tight spots" hunts.

Thanks guys those are some great pics. I love the looks of the PSR's. My only fear is that because I am used to shooting longer recurves that i would have trouble switching to the shorter PSR.

The riser on both the PSR / PL are identical so switching back and forth is a breeze.
