Whitetails from the ground (Natural)
«
on:

No pop up blinds please. Let's see some pics of deer taken from the ground,
this season
, from either all natural brush blinds or by spot and stalk.
Here's one I got lucky on and everything just fell into place. Spot and stalk across an open campground(WMA) in blue jeans and a T-shirt.
15 yard shot.

Here's one of mine. Spot and stalk from the porch of the camp through an overgrown field, on hands and knees. He bedded in some cedars and the wind was right, plus it covered my noise. Ended up with a 5yd shot.

Posted this guy earlier, but here is another view, without the old guy (me) in the picture. Still hunting, 20 yard shot, 50 yard recovery. My avatar has the same deer.

I've taken my last four from the ground, the last two I was simply standing by a tree. Here's the last one.

I'd post the picture but I missed a 15 yard chip shot the other day. I was already butchering the deer in my mind and forgot to pick a spot!!!

Atta' boys, nice goin'. What are those brown things sticking up between their ears? We don't seem to have any deer like that where I hunt. (First time I've ever hunted October AND November and never saw even ONE fresh scrape or rub. It's like the bucks were all watching football...probably where I should have been, lol)

Tony,
I had to drive all the way to Virginia to find a buck dumb enough to let me sneak up on him, LOL.

Posted this back in October and still smilin' about it today. I was standing next to a cherry tree alongside a standing beanfield with nothing but fresh Illinois air between us. Exciting to say the least!

Spot and stalk here. It was warm and we needed to get her processed, so this had to be an action shot...

Kevin dude, I saw that Virginia buck of yours. Now aren't you ashamed of bringing a 'porch buck' back home to Maine? I mean c'mon...5 yards? My arrows are longer than that. And in his bed to boot? You could've at least woken him up before shootin' the poor thing!
What we need up here in Maine is a bunch of those standing bean fields like the Illinois fellas have. Gonna' hafta' order some standing bean seeds this year for sure...

I truly enjoy hunting from the ground but always feel like the proverbial sore thumb. Can't seem to close the deal, always getting busted and it is very frustrating. I know the kill is not the main reason I hunt, but it is near the top of the list and I really like venison. Got a new spot that I just found a couple days ago that is very thick with little to no trees, so will spend some more time on the ground, hoping to find a deer that is blind in one eye and can't see out of the other.

Naww Tony, if I could have talked him into it, I woulda left the tailgate down on the truck and let him climb in before I shot, LOL. I had just spent 3 days chasing on old, dry doe that had more lives than all three of the kid's cats put together. I got at least two shots a day on her and had everything possible go wrong, including a string breaking at half draw. I figured the deer spirits owed me one by the time he came along.

My wife laughs at me because I walk a mile to climb a tree. She sits a hundred yards from the house and shoots them off the ground.
