Help me out with my Christmas present!
« on: December 26, 2009, 02:40:00 AM »
Ok guys, I recently picked up a Kohanna Kurve in a trade from a fello trad ganger.. The bow is [email protected].. Im pulling 27.5-28" on the bow..

Now, my parents got me some Beman Classics for CHRISTmas.. They picked up some 400s.. How can I set these up to work? (length, heads?) I can return them for a different spined arrow, but im thinking these could work  well.. I was shooting GT3555`s out of them with 150 grains up front.. They flew pretty good, but just seemed a bit light to me and also seemed as if there was room for improvement.. Moneys super tight, so if possible, id like to keep shooting my newer 150grain heads..

Help me out guys! Any suggestions will be appreciated!

I shoot about the same draw and weight and I have some 400 Classics that shoot great. They're cut to 29.5" and I use a 125gr point and a 100gr insert...weigh in at around 530gr. I'd keep them full length to start and tune from there with the 150gr up front

I would think you will need the 100 gr brass inserts for them and then find proper length and good to go with 150s.

I emailed you a copy of Stu's Spine calu program.

It should help with your arrow design.

Jerad, If you want to try some different weight heads, let me know. I have a bunch of them in weights from 115-250grains. I could make you up a test package and you could play around with them. It would let you decide what you can or cant use without the expense of buying them. When you figure out what would work, you could send them back....Roy

Thanks for the input guys!

Wheres the best place to get some heavy inserts? May not need to go this route depending on what the Blind One`s (who I got the Kurve from!)test kit tells me, but figured id ask..

Wingnut, I downloaded the program you sent me but for some reason I cant get it to open on my computer..

After some other reading, I think I may be ok cutting them to 29.5" and running the 150 grain heads.. Just not sure if more weight will help or not.. Im fairly new to the "super" tuning side of this and still a bit green, but I want perfect arrows for what I think may be the perfect bow for me! On that note Roy, if youd like to send me out a test package, id greatly appreciate it! Feel free to PM me here, AT, or email me and we can discuss it.. Thanks!

You will probably need a longer arrow or some insert weight.  If you shoot a 500 spine now and it is tuned with the 150's you will not get the same with the 400's.  Start way long and work down from there.  You can always cut.  You can't add once you have cut.  If you find the length is way long when you hit your tune with your point weight and want them shorter yet then add insert weight and start cutting again.  The calculator is a great tool, but there are many variables it can't take into account. I currently shoot an arrow 18# spine less than the calculator calls for, and I have great flight.

With the 3555`s I wasnt getting the best of flight.. I will play with point weight on long arrows and see how it works.. I had the 3555`s pretty short too..
