« on: December 27, 2009, 10:51:00 AM »
OK, we got the wool clothing covered and working on the head gear thread! Lets get working on our hands, what do you guys cover your paws with on those cold, cold days! I can't seem to find anything I like so far except the Under Armour glove liners, I need something to go over them when the temps are in the single digits. ! What are you guys and gals using??

Here is what I use. My tab stays on my finger the whole time, just close the mitten over your fingers. It has magnets that hold it open instead of velcro, so there is no noise. It has a zippered pouch on the back side so you can add a handwarmer if you want. The thumb also opens up on them.......Roy

Bow hand: Arctic Shield Mitten and liner similar to  the photo above.

String hand (Damascus glove): chemical handwarmer in pocket. Occasionally I'll use the other Arctic Shield mitten over the Damascus.

The magnets make those mittens much better than velcro.

wool gloves with cut off fingers so my shooting glove fits thru them.

I use those wool type gloves with the little nobbies on them for a sure grip, I cut the three fingers off for my shooting glove, and always have those trusty hot hands with me, seems to work just fine.

Thinsulate mitten on bow hand, and thinsulate glove with fingers cut-out on drawing hand (tucked in pocket when not pulling string back).

I use wool or thinsulate gloves with no fingers mostly along with my shooting glove.  If I use a glove with fingers I will just shoot off of the glove itself instead of a tab or shooting glove..

So far this year (and we've been down into the 20s several times and teens a bit) nothing. I have been keeping them in a Thinsulate muff thingy (with a chem hand warmer if needed) and that's worked *really* well.

If it gets much colder, I plan to go back to my old standby - fingerless rag wool gloves (with the mitten thing that flips over the fingers when needed.

Get a big piece of fleece at the craft store, roll it up like a carpet just big enough to fit your hands inside. Use the thick fleece material. Run piece of cord through the roll and tie around your waist. Now you just made one of those 30 dollar muffs for about 3 bucks! stuff your hands inside with a couple hand warmer packets and your hands will stay warm better than a coat pocket.

All I do is wear a thin pair of gloves that I wear ALL year around, and when it gets cold outside I use an Artic Shield muff with a handwarmer inside. I dont want to switch gloves because I am so used to the ones I wear now.

Yep, I use the light wool gloves (the green army mitt liners) with three fingers cut off the shooting glove and a muff as well.  Usually, that's all I need.  If it gets down near 10-20 degrees, I'll throw a couple of chemical heat packets in the muff.  Below zero and I use the original Jone-e lighter fluid pocket warmer.  That's like having a campfire in your pocket, literally, if you're not careful.

I use the same as Blind One..except i cut the middle finger off to accomidate my tab. works great! the gloves with the magnet are quieter.

for stand hunting I like a muff with a handwarmer in it.  For stillhunting I use glove liners and fleece gloves.  I cut the three fingers off the right one for my shooting glove.

With a little practice I shoot as well with it as I do normally.

In very cold temperatures (from -20 to 10 F), a deer-skin leather chopper mitt with a wool liner on my left hand.  My right goes in a pocket or insulated bag on my belt, along with a chemical body (not hand) warmer.  I also carry a pair of insulated deer-skin gloves for the walk in, hanging stands, etc.

I use about the same glove, but most times I take them off when all set up on stand and go to hand warmers in the pockets at least on the string hand.  The magnet ones are the way to go.  I also use a hand muff a lot of the time with hand warmers in it.  That keeps my hands warmer than pockets with warmers because both hands can help keep each other warmer and you can rub them to promote circulation. when it is really cold.
