Which tab?
« on: December 27, 2009, 01:30:00 PM »
I know this is a subjective question but I am looking at getting a split finger tab and there are many to choose from.  I like the feel of the finger separators on some tabs but other than that what can you tell me about the various models and their pros/cons.

Thx!

I've been using the same Neet cordovan tab w/spacer for 3+ years.Bought 2 at the same time and haven't even broke in the second one yet.
I also have a Cavalier tab that seems really nice but it just isn't as familiar as the Neet

A Wilson Tab or an old Need.  No spacers, they feel wierd to me.

You can see the old Neet tab here:

I have one, and I am still trying to get used to it.  Maybe it is just not broken in yet.  I have the one with the stretch strap.  It flies off my hand all the time.  I get some erratic releases and it curls up on me, which probably causes the fly off's.  It is slick that is for sure, and I think I get more speed out of it when all goes well on the release.  I think I would go with the finger hole type instead of the stretch strap.  I will keep working on it.

Most of the time I use the BW calf hair or leather tabs.  They work great for me, but don't last as long as the cordovan. I am thinking of trying a cordovan glove.

I really like the Black Widow or Wilson tabs. I shoot 3 under but use the standard tab with the split in it. Very durable and comfortable.  :)

My favorite tab is my Bateman cordovan tab with a finger spacer, been shooting the same tab for the last 4 years. But lately I have come to like my Cavalier Elite cordovan tab without a spacer just as well.I still shoot both of them.

I have a tab that I got from a guy over 10 years ago. There is nothing real special about the shape but I have cut a few of them since from a single piece of leather. It's a real simple design. There are alot of tabs on the market to choose from but I prefer to cut my own. If you'd like, I can send you one to try. Just pm me.

I use the Black Widow palm tab. Really handy as it just hangs on your wrist when not shooting. They last me forever and I shoot a lot.

Screaming Eagle. It's a plain cordovan tab. I'm with George on this one. I can't get used to something between my fingers.

I originally purchased the Bateman and thought it was the bees knees. It is in fact a really nice tab, but its a little thin for me, so now it just collects dust. I replaced it with a Skookum Cordovan Tab from Alaskan bowhunting supply. Its a bit thicker, and tough as nails. I know some like to feel their string, but I dont. I enjoy it so much I purchased a second, and before too long will get another to break in. I like having a spare for my spare.

Kind regards

Bateman cordovan  tabs cannot be beat IMO. I used them when I shot split finger and shoot them now that I shoot 3 under.
