Who has shot a Shafer take down long bow? What length, poundage, and wood did it have? I know Dave is making them, and they look nice, but I hate to spend $1,100 plus just to try one.

If you're looking to try a Schafer before you buy one give Dave or Beth a call, they have a test drive program. You could also attend the Denton Hill shoot in July in Coudersport, Pa as Dave & Beth are usually there.

I test drove a 62" bow after owning a 60" T/D longbow. I found the 60" bow to be a bit jumpy at times. The 62" bow was perfect in every aspect. Smooth on the draw, silent, and Silvertip quick! I have one on order and it will be here in January

The grip is like an old friend's handshake, welcoming. I opted for a checkered grip which I have on all my Silvertips, that is one option that is a must IMO.

My 60" bow if I remember correctly was 57 or 58# at 28". The one coming in the next few weeks will be 56#@28. The 62" bow I demoed was 54#@28. I could shoot it all day!

Thanks for the replys. Beth didn't say anything about the test drive program, and I'll have to give her a call. I am thinking of a 62" longbow, and with the checkered grip. I love the feel of the Shafer grip, and I currently have a recurve with new limbs on order.

Limbow, what wood did you ask for on the limbs?

When I bought mine I wondered why I would spen so much for a bow thought I was crazy. after getting and shooting it - money well spent

Once you find a bow that truly fits, you don't mind to have spent allot of money. I'm thinking the black riser with a natural colored limb. Camo might be nice.

Beth said they do the test bow, but there are no bows in stock until Spring. So, I guess I'll have to wait.

I test drove this one about 2 years ago. 64" 57#. Great bow in all regards. Personally a 64" shot better for me with a 28" draw.

I have a 62",57#@28" three piece T/D Silvertip and I love it. Fast and dead in the hand. I shoot it just as well as my Silvertip recurve and Brackenbury Quest and Blacktail and Morrison Mini-14 ILF recurves. Mine has a rosewood dymondwood riser with what looks like a bacote stripe, boo limbs with tonkin bamboo lams. It is not going anywhere ever! Hope to take a pig with it soon.

My TD Schafer is 54 @ 29 and 64". Camphor burl limb veniers and Oak dymond wood. She's a sweet shooter. I have the checkered grip and like it a lot. Took 11 months to arrive. She shoots a 475gr arrow ~188fps. Here's a hero pic from this year:

I jumped off the deep end an bought one(from this site)with out trying one, just because I had their one piece longbow.It was the right move, although a little different grip than the one piece,it's a pleaure to shoot.

i took a chance on one and have been pleased as well, checkered grip reminds me of my winchester lever 22 mag i got for my 15th birthday, you can really dig your hand into the grip, it's nice.

I shot one this summer for a while. If you have average or large hands make sure you get the longer riser. Typical Schafer--very, very nice.

I haven't had my new Widow for 2 weeks and I am ready to order a Schafer longbow:) I just don't want to wait a year for it:(
