Did you ever start post a long reply only to hit the "back" button by mistake and loose it all?  LOL.

Let me try again.
I will see if my senile old mind can remember what I said.

Thanks to everyone who replied.  I am glad I asked as I learned some very good stuff.  Orion and Zwicky's point about NOT trying to put the arrow centerline exactly on the bow’s centerline is a real good one that I do seem to remember now.  I guess it’s all about shooting fingers.

And as Bjorn suggested, I will shoot it as is first for sure.  "On Paper" it looks like with a small dia. carbon that the shelf might need padding out, but in a real world we know that is not always the case.  It may shoot terrific as is.  Just playing some mental games while waiting for the bow.

Mike (Yellow Dog) thanks for the real good deal on the bow.  I am really looking forward to it.  The point you made about using a firmer grip on this bow is a good one and one that I heard from two other ACS guys, and worth remembering.

There are really some interesting responses here.
Thanks again.

hey gene !!!  hope all is well with you my friend.

welcome to the world of ACS owners. i have a 62" and like it. i needed to put a wrap on the grip for my liking. people talk about the speed of these bows and i agree its fast. but what i noticed is how stable the bow is.

my brace is at 7"; im shooting CE 150 with brass inserts. i have some type of wool silencers on that i have trimmed down.

Hi Gene, I've had several ACS-CX bows and they were low-poundage ones in the low to mid 40's.

Orion has it right about the cut-past-center and arrow orientation to the string. Keep the right side of the shaft a tad to the left of the string, not centered. All bows have a tendency to be more consistent-shooting when setup that way. When shooting fingers, it isn't a good idea to have the arrow centered in front of the string. It's easy to build out on the sideplate, look for some self-sticky felt pads at the dept store (certain ones come in certain thicknesses).

Just make sure to keep full pressure straight upwards when stringing, don't let the riser get in towards you or out away from you.... straight UP!

Also, when the bow is laying flat when strung.... DO NOT pick the bow up by the limb end. You can do that with recurves, but some of the extreme r/d bows have a tendency where the string will roll-off the limb tip because of torqueing the limb one way or the other, ASC-CX included. It's called "noodly limb syndrome".

Have fun, Gene!

Darn

I have been away from the forums for quite a while, and now glad to be back.
At first I did not see too many old friends, but its nice to hear from two more.

Hey Joe!

The leather grip makes sense from what I read about "keeping a firm grip".  You still got that great collection of bows?

Piney!
How be ya?
When you get my age, limbs are not only things that get "noodly" rather than stiff!      :wavey:

Gene,
I just picked up one of these bows about a month ago and really like it once I found the correct arrow and broad-head wt. combonation! It is almost the same as yours (14" riser and limbs total 64") except the weight is 53lbs @ 28. My shooting style is three fingers under and as I have read before, you need to go way up in spine to get your arrows to fly where you are looking. The only odd thing about this bow is that my big left hand is very close to the sight window on this 14" riser (really not a bad thing) and the fletching are making contact between my thumb and index finger. Actually there is a small cut and it is sort of  wearing out there so I put a small piece of duct tape and that solved the problem. I have since purchased a alum 16" riser and hope this will take care of the problem!
Good luck!

Bonecracker, I have found that when shooting the ACS the arrow hitting the hand is a symptom of a low nocking point, just take it up a small bit and that should go away with no ill effects on where the arrow goes at the other end.

Pretty much repeating what others have said, bracing height of 7 1/8" for me.

I tend to find it works best for me straight up, no cant. That suits my style so not a problem for me.
