Sitka Gear Question
«
on:
December 30, 2009, 12:34:00 PM »
I am looking to add some more Sitka Gear clothing to my growing collection and am uncertain what the differences are between the Kelvin and Celsius lines are. Is one line intended for inside layering and the other for the outer layer? I one line warmer than the other? I find the Sitka Gear website very confusing in trying to distinguish the differences and why I may prefer one line over the other. Thanks.

John,
From my understanding the Celcius line is more for outerwear, and the Kelvin line is more for layering. However, I am sure you could wear the Kelvin line on the outside.
I have the Celcius vest, I love it, under a jacket in cold weather, in milder weather I wear it on the outside.
The Sitka line is very versitile, you will not go wrong with either.
Now is the time to buy Sitka, b/c there are some great deals out there right now!
Good Luck

John,
From what I understand from the prostaff the Kelvin is designed to go under another jacket as a layer. Checkout some of the previous threads for more info. I should have a Kelvin jacket at my house today as I bought one with some Christmas $.

The Kelvin is MUCH warmer than the Celsius. It is also very noisy and made for wearing as an inner layer, unlesss you are gunning things down at long range. You would be fine wearing it on the outside for sitting and glassing, but would definitely want to take it off for the stalk. When worn under any of the other jackets, it slides silently in there. My new favorite piece of Sitka. VERY WARM! Also very lightweight and compresses down to nothing in your pack.

I have wondered about the Kelvin myself I mainly own the 90% and Celsius. I hunted alot in the snow last week never got cold other than my hands using polartec heavy fleece underlayers 90% pants/jacket with Celsius vest. One trick I have been doing is I put the body size heat packs in my chest pockets of the Sitka jacket and then the Celsius vest over the jacket you can feel the heat radiating for hours next to your lungs.

Ok, I got my Kelvin coat yesterday and took it out tonight. Temps in the mid 20's windchill in the teens. I was almost sweating in it and I usually always get cold when I am on stand but not tonight. I would love to see a pair of knee length shorts in the kelvin line! So if any of our pro staff read this maybe you can make the suggestion.

11 degrees this morning with a windchill of 5. Stayed out for 3 hours and was warm the whole time. I kind of like this coat!

As others have said. Kelvin on the inside, Celsius on the outside. Probably my next purchase will be a Kelvin coat. Herd Bull has stated that he really like his under an outer layer.
